Redirected to random websites when clicking on google search results

Recently when I use google for searches, when I click on a result link I am redirected to different random websites. I have to click the back button, click the link again, and repeat three or four times in order to get to the correct page.

For instance, when I do a search for "Cats" the top three results are www.Fanciers.com, cats.about.com and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat

When I click on the first link for www.Fanciers.com
First attempt - http://www.cat-shoppe.com/
Second attempt - http://clickserve.dartsearch.net/link/clic…000000021253371 unable to use back button to leave site
Third attempt - http://www.fanciers.com/

Same for all subsequent result links.

Also, what seems related, I have tried to install counterspy and get an error message that says:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

I'm not running in safe mode and I have gone to services and found Windows Installer not running. I have tried starting the service manually but it has not effect on the outcome. I have tried to install other programs with the same error code. I was however able to install Hijackthis.

Implemented method 1 and 2 from the knowledge base article with no change, I still get the error code. During method 2 the following command lines gave me error message: ren msi.dll msi.old - system cannot find the file specified ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old - system cannot find the file specified ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old - system cannot find the file specified I had actually read this article before posting and tried the fix without luck, I tried again when you instructed. What do you think? Thanks for your help today.
Three search results: MSIEXEC.EXE-2F8A8CAE.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch msiexec.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32 msiexec.exe C:\WINDOWS\servicePackFiles\i386
msiexec.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32 msiexec.exe C:\WINDOWS\servicePackFiles\i386 Can you look at the size of msiexec.exe in the above two locations and see if they're different?
