My computer won't shut down completely. I have to unplug it. A computer repair tech replaced the PSU last week thinking that was the problem. At that time, I had great difficulty getting it to boot up so the new PSU solved that. When I called him about the shutting down problem, he thought it could be a software problem and it would cost $85 to fix that. I'm unsure what to do next. Thank you for any help.
Thanks for your reply. I did learn that I have a "powerdown issue" and not a "shutdown issue". I looked for the APM/NT legacy power node but couldn't find it. When I shut down the computer, the monitor goes dark and it then shows a box with bright colors ..one is in green saying.. Self Test G
..one in red saying………Check your PC and signal cable B
..one in blue saying……..monitor is working B
Does this mean anything? I've never had a problem like this and I hadn't made any changes on my computer when this all started a week ago. Thanks again for your help.
Hi,
Can you check please if your computer is actually shutting down I.E. Fans stopping, hard drive becoming silent and LED's turning off and its just your monitor that is giving you the messages.

Thank you for your reply. The fan keeps running, the yellowish light stays on and also the small green light on the black strip under the DVD rom stays on, the green light around the off/on button shuts down and also, the hard drive shuts down(from what I can hear.) System Restore won't restore to an earlier date either. Maybe that's a whole other issue. Thanks again for your help.
Right, it looks like everything is shutting down Ok with the exception of the actual electrical power to the computer and to the screen.
I think power management may be the issue here.
some good information on this whole question here:
Sorry I haven't got a "Magic Bullet" for this one, so try the solutions referred to, in the meantime I will set up one of my machines to try and replicate the problem, try and find a solution for it, and get back to you!
Busy time for me tomorrow and Friday morning , so I will try and do this (set it up at least) Friday afternoon (GMT)

My computer has ACPI Multiprocessor PC. I don't know anything about BIOS. Sometimes when the monitor is shutting down it shows……ccApp not responding/ending program. Thanks for your help.
The ccApp.exe is part of Norton (amongst other things) so if you have Norton Anti Virus installed or Norton Internet Security, this may be a possible cause.
It would be best to go to the Symantec website and do a search in their knowlege base for "ccApp not responding" and you will see that lots of folks have had the same or similar problems.
ccApp.exe appears to be gone after following Step 1 on the Symantec website. I had already unchecked Scan floppy disk several days ago. Thanks for your help.
