Hi, I just bought a new computer. It's Intel core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz. 1GB RAM. Intel Graphics card (Intel® GMA 3000) anywayz, Im getting some problems while trying to play a game. When I double click the icon of Need for speed Carbon, A black screen appears and then it comes bak to normal (back to the windows screen) and nothing happens. My friend also has an Intel Graphics Card (version different frm mine) and he says he has the same problem. Well the game works absolutely fine in my laptop (ATI Radeon Graphics). So I guess there is a problem with Intel graphics cards. I think I need to download and install drivers but I cant find them… :( The minimum requrements of NFS Carbon are given below: Windows XP Service Pack 2 (32Bit Edition only), Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 operating system Intel Pentium 4 (or equivalent) CPU running at 1.7GHz or higher 64MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card (NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti/ATI Radeon 8500 or higher) using a supported chipset (see below) 512MB RAM DirectX compatible sound card 4.9 GB of HD space 8X or faster DVD Drive Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem??
alrite. I downloaded the driver myself. But the graphics are bad. Somewhere in the intel graphics informations I found out that 'total memory' (of the graphics card) in use is 9MB and maximum is 256MB. How do I increase the 'total memory in use' of my Graphics card???
Shan92,

Give us a PCPitstop Full Test -TechExpress Link for that machine.
http://www.pcpitstop.com
Then we'll be better able to give you informed recommendations.

Best Regards
Hi Shan92,

Yes, at only 74% of expected performance, your graphics acceleration could use some improvement.

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022768.htm
Intel® Q965 Express Chipset
- Graphics Driver Download
- Intel® Chipset SoftwareInstallation Utility Download

Or - On that same page is a link to "Intel® Chipset Identification Utility" which you can use if you would prefer to have Intel automated services examine your machine to assist in selecting the Chipset download.

(you can also find a link for audio drive on that same page and use it if you find that your game experiences audio difficulty… otherwise if no problem with audio, leave the current driver)

Though the Hard Drive Fragmentation may not intuitively seem related, excessively fragmented Hard Drives can result in read/write errors and slowing of your machine.
Additionally, an owner/user should be sure that the Hard Drive has been Defragmented prior to installing new software/including driver updates, and then again after software installation.
Data fragmentation 69%
File fragmentation 5%

GoTo:
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Defragment
(You will probably benefit from running your System Defragment tool (3) three times in a row for better file defragmentation)

For better Internet Performance:
Please complet the following, if you have not already done so:

- Launch window registry editor by clicking on Start | Run .
- Click in the Open dropdown box and type in regedit.exe then click OK .
- Back up your registry by selecting File | Export type in a meaningful file name, in the export range section
select All and save to your hard drive. To restore your old registry you simply import this file.
- Next you need to create a new registry key. On the left side you need to go to the directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
- Select Edit | New | DWORD Value .
- Rename the new registry key to TcpWindowSize.
- Modify the registry setting for TcpWindowSize by double clicking on the key.
- Change the Base Setting to Decimal.
- Enter the value 64240 and click OK, then exit RegEdit.
- For these settings to take effect you need to close all your open applications and reboot your system.

Please Run and Post a fresh PCPitstop TechExpress after completing the above.
And please let us know how the machine is performing after the Chipset update.

Best Regards

Additional thoughts/recommendation:
If I were using that machine for gaming and wanted to get best performance, I would "disable" the following via MSCONFIG:
Office XP speech Microsoft Corporation C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
Intel Hotkeys Intel Corporation C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe
PowerDVD Cyberlink Corp. C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe
RichVideo C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Shared Files\RichVideo.exe
pdfsty.exe PDF Complete Inc C:\Program Files\PDF Complete\pdfsty.exe
pdfsvc.exe PDF Complete Inc C:\Program Files\PDF Complete\pdfsvc.exe
Realtek HD Audio Realtek Semiconductor Corp. C:\WINDOWS\RTHDCPL.EXE
Intel® Common User Interface Intel Corporation C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe
Intel Graphics Intel Corporation C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe

(by "disabling" these items, you would not be "removing' them, and they would continue to be available for future use by starting them manually, or "re-enabling" them via MSCONFIG)
Dough, I had already downloaded the drivers (I mentioned that before). So do I uninstall them first or what? and secondly there is a big list of the drivers. I dont know which one to download…. :(
I had already defragmented my drive using Diskkeeper 2007. I did it after running the tests at pcpitstop. sorry abt that. I did the registry edit thing for Internet Performance. Thx for telling me that.
Dough, The problem with the graphics is not the driver. It is the 'total memory in use' take a look at this: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver Report Report Date: 01/05/2007 Report Time[hr:mm:ss]: 21:42:04 Driver Version: 6.14.10.4704 Operating System: Windows XP* Home Edition, Service Pack 2 (5.1.2600) Default Language: English DirectX* Version: 9.0 Physical Memory: 999 MB Minimum Graphics Memory: 8 MB Maximum Graphics Memory: 256 MB Graphics Memory in Use: 9 MB Processor: x86 family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6 Processor Speed: 1860 MHZ Vendor ID: 8086 Device ID: 2992 Device Revision: 02 * Accelerator Information * Accelerator in Use: Intel® Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family Video BIOS: 1348 Current Graphics Mode: 1024 by 768 True Color (60 Hz) * Other names and brands are the property of their respective owners. "Graphics Memory in Use: 9 MB" <——This is the problem. How do I increase this?
Shan92,

This Video Graphics Accelerator from Intel is equiped with a variable device that is capable of demanding the correct amount of RAM to be made available for the intensity of the specific task at hand.
Range is between 9mb adn 256mb depending upon the intensity of graphic task in current operation.
Running the Pit Test only demands 2D graphic applications, and therefore requires only the minimum 9mb.

If the Available RAM on demand was measured while you were "gaming" you would notice a significantly higher RAM availablility.

The most likely solution to your current situation remains to reinstall the Graphics Chipset Driver.

Note: Depending upon performance after installing the Graphics Chipset Driver, you may also decide to reinstall the Audio Chipset Driver…….. But if Audio is functioning adequately, I would recommend against the additional reinstallation of Audio Chipset Driver
(my reason does not refer to any risk to your machine inquired by reinstalling the Audio Chipset Driver. Rather I am following philosopy: "If it ain't broke, don't be fixin' on it." Installing the Audio Chipset Driver is slightly more complicated that the procedure you will be using to install the Graphic Chipset Driver.

The Graphic Chipset Driver that your machine requires is:
Intel® 82Q963 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub (GMCH)
[WIN2K_XP1425.EXE] (8430KB) PV14.25 10/9/2006
Which can be obtained here:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df…mp;submit=Go%21

It is the first Download item, as follows:
Title Ver.# Date
1. [WIN2K_XP1425.EXE] (8430KB) PV14.25 10/9/2006 Download
Installs drivers for the integrated graphics controller of Intel® chipsets. This is not to be used if the system has a third party graphics card.
Read Me (txt) Release Notes (htm)
OS:Windows* 2000, Windows* XP Home Edition, Windows* XP Media Center Edition, Windows* XP Professional

You will notice that it is compatible with all versions of Windows XP, and that it is the same driver for both Intel® Q965 and Q963 Express Chipsets.

The Read Me on that download page provides an extensive "how to install" for the Chipsets.

I have "excerpted the appropriate portions for installing the Graphics Chipset Driver and will post it into the next reply in this thread.

Yes u were absolutely right. I put the game on, minimized it and then checked the total memory in use. It was abt 40MB.
anywayz, I downloaded the driver.
[WIN2K_XP1425.EXE] (8430KB) PV14.25 10/9/2006

9. Enter the directory where you unzipped the file you
downloaded, and then enter the "Graphics" subdirectory.
Next enter the "xp32" subdirectory. Highlight the
"igxp32.INF" file. Click on the "Open" button.

There is no INF file named 'igxp32.INF'…… :S
Hi, I'm not sure if you have managed to find the correct.inf file and that all your problems are solved…or that you are still looking for it! I have downloaded the files on to one of my machines to check both the installation instructions and the existance of igxp32.INF and can confirm that the file is there and the instructions do work! It may well be that you have failed to "Extract" the files using WinZip or similar and its only when you unzip that the igxp32.INF (along with lots of others appears) So if you are still having difficulty the answer is probably to Unzip/Extract the files to the unzip directory/folder you are using for this and try again. If you have already done this and everything is now working OK then, Well done! Regards paws
