so i just got a new cd burner and hook it up. for some reason there is no regular cd drive which used to be known as drive e on my pc and no cd burner drive f showig when i go into "my computer" they are hoocked up right but i have no idea why its not showin anything. can someone help me out ? thanks
Sounds like either the jumpers need setting correctly for slave/master or that the data cable may not be connected correctly, I would first re-check that both ends of the cable are in correctly (cd-rom and motherboard end) Also if they are ide drives check that the red line on the data cable is facing the red wire on the power cable.
Have a look at the photo here -> How to install a DVD or CD burner In this photo you can see that the jumpers are circled, one drive needs to be set as a master and the other needs to be set as a slave (im presuming they are joined together on the same cable here) For the exact settings it depends on the make of the drive that you have, most drive show the jumper settings on top of the unit, if not then you should have some documentation with the information.
If you cannot find the info you need on the drive or in documents supplied with the drive then feel free to reply back noting what make of drives you have and are they IDE or SATA or units
i put them to cable select and it still shows nothing. i triede to put the burner at slave and nothing. the cd drive is hp model xj-hd166s and the burner is a sony model crx230ee. thanks
when i try to go through the add new hardware wizard and click the cd drive it has an exclamation point on it and says "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
