Hi. Recently I've downloaded a realplayer clip. As I open it, many pop ups popped out from the realplayer broswer. I knew somethings wrong. My virus scanner popped out a balloon said the start-up config has changed. ( I did not do anything with the config. ) Then I tried to scan my computer but my virus scanner also detected couple files renamed itself whenever my scanner's going thru the folder. Please help!

Download this file - combofix.exe

and save it to your desktop. Also save the below command in Notepad as a text file so that you can copy/paste in safe mode.

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /wow

Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key just before Windows starts to load.

go to start –> run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /wow

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Save it and post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

In your next post, please include
  • new hijackthis log
  • combofix log
*use separate posts to ensure the logs don't get cut off!

Hi sjpritch25. Thanks for helping. However, I could not restart the computer to safe mode by pressing f8, is there a command I can put on start->run and have the windows auto start at safe mode on the next restart? Than you very much.

Download KILLBOX, extract it to your desktop.

Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method so Windows will start with minimal drivers and running processes. To do this restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". See How to Boot in "SAFE MODE" tutorial if needed.

  • Open killbox.exe.
  • Click on Tools>Delete Temp Files
  • A box will open with a list of all user profiles.
  • Check the following boxes at a minimum for each profile by clicking on the drop down and checking the boxes that are enabled. Some will not apply and those boxes will not be available to check. Make sure you do this for all the profiles listed.
  • Temporary Internet Files
  • Temp Files
  • XP Prefetch
  • If you want to clean your cookies, history, and list of recent files run you may check those boxes as well.
Then,,
Check on the Button titled "Delete Selected Temp Files"
Exit by clicking the Button titled "Exit(Save Settings)"
Once back into the main killbox program.
  • Check the following boxes:
    Standard File Kill

I've did everything you said except the update windows part. Because when I try to update it, it doesn't go service pack 1a, it updates to pack 2. So I don't know. However, heres the new hijackthis log:

Please perform a scan with Kaspersky Webscan Online Virus Scanner
1. Click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button (NOT "Kaspersky File Scanner").
2. Read the Requirements and Privacy statement, then select "Accept".
3. A new window will appear promting you to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky - "Do you want to install this software?".
4. Click "Yes or select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run.
5. When the download is complete it will say ready, click "Next".
6. Click "Scan Settings" and check the option to use the Extended Database if available otherwise Standard).
7. Click "Scan Options" and select both "Scan Archives" and "Scan Mail Bases".
8. Click "OK".
9. Under "Select a target to scan", click on "My Computer".
10. When the scan is complete choose to save the results as "Save as Text" named kaspersky.txt to your desktop and post them in your next reply.

Kaspersky does not remove anything but will provide a log of anything it finds. On August 8th, 2006 Kaspersky updated the software used for Free Online Virus Scanner. In order to continue using the online scanner you will need to uninstall the old version (if previously used) from your Add/Remove Programs list and then install the latest version. To do this, follow the steps here and reboot afterwards if your system does not reboot automatically or it will show 'Kaspersky Online Scanner license key was not found!
