Hi! Been having difficulty and a few people over at McAfee help suggested I should post here. Here's my log, though bear with me because I have no idea what it means.

Hi and welcome to the forum. :D

Step # 1

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

REBOOT

Step #2

Please download and run Spybot & AdAware SE Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

Spybot & Adaware Tutorial

REBOOT

Step # 3

Then do 2 virus scans here >>> Trend Micro

Panda http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.
Hi Siggyx! Thanks for the welcome, you guys are great! I updated and ran everything exactly as you said, and didn't come up with much. CWS didn't find anything, Spybot didn't find anything and Adaware came up with a couple of MRU lists. The trendmicro scan found a TROJ STARTER.A which I believe is Qhost (the little bugger) so I deleted it, and ActiveScan didn't find anything. Any time I rebooted Qhost came up in the McAfee scan, though I didn't scan for viruses because I wanted to keep to your directions. So here's my HJT log:

Thanks again for all your help, and Happy New Year if we don't talk to you before!
Amanda
Please boot to safe mode (tap f8 while bios loads) then scan again with hijackthis and put a check beside these lines and choose FIX. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Bcvsrv32] csrsss.exe O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [System] system32.exe O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Bcvsrv32] csrsss.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Configuration Loader] msg.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Configuration] ntsyst32.exe Then while still in safe mode delete these files. csrsss.exe system32.exe csrsss.exe msg.exe ntsyst32.exe Then reboot and post a new log please.
Siggyx please clarify, you didn't want me to delete any files CONTAINING those file names, just the files themselves? I searched for just the files as listed and didn't come up with anything while in safe mode, but if I searched for files "containing text" I came up with lots for each. I didn't delete anything "containing text" and just left it until I could get clarification from you.

For the HJT scan after I checked and fixed what you told me here's what I got:

Bump! Just wanted to add as well that there was no sign of Qhost at startup this morning, which is good because I don't think my head could take it. Still fuzzy from all the champagne. I just want to be sure that the above was all I needed to do to get rid of this thing. Oh, and also too, speed is back on this computer to almost what I remember it as being when I put it together. That's a tremendous bonus! Hope you all had a very happy start to the New Year! Amanda
Looks good :D

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
