Hi,
I have a new laptop that I received for a graduation gift in Apriil. For some reason all the sudden when it boots up windows installer box comes up and I have no idea why. I have to click on cancel anywhere from 5 to 8 times before it will finally go away. I was told there was a way to get rid of this however, this person did not know how to do it and I am not that computer savy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is drivig me crazy
This is what the installer actually says before I go and do the wrong thing
The windows installer box is still coming up only now it is saying it is a Sonic Activation module
Then another box comes up when you click cancel and says ( the feature you are trying to use is on a c-rom on another Removable disk that is not available insert that disk and click ok.
I looked through all the cd's that came with laptop and there is no such thing and Sonic is not on her computer.
Thanks Again
The item that is "alerting" - Sonic Activation module - may be a useful/desireable third-party tool related to burning CD/DVD's with a CD/DVD-R unit that you may have as part of your machine.
The "problem" that keeps alerting is probably indicating that there was a problem when "sonic" was installed such that it did not complete the installation (or a "trial-version" has expired).
Read the included instructions for "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility", especially those instructions included in the "Readme.txt" file.
When using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, select "only" the item (in your case related to Sonic) which you want to remove.
You may later find that some software applications do not run or are not available when you wish to use them, (for instance if you want to burn a CD/DVD). You will then need to "reinstall" the needed software.
One of your Dell CD's may have the Sonic (MYDVD or CD Creator) as an application that you can reinstall.
The Dell CD may be labeled: "Drivers, Utilities, and Applications" which may include such items as AntiVirus, Support Software, Device Drivers, etc. Or it might be on a separate Dell CD with only the Sonic software.
On the otherhand, the Sonic item may have been only a "pre-installed trial-software" that will be gone after you use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and not available on any included Dell CD.
Useful CD/DVD burning softwares can be purchased.
A couple of good ones are offered by Nero/Ahead and Roxio, as well as Sonic.
