Hi recently i had a situation with my notebook were it didnt boot pass the manufacture screen, and i heard alot of clicking with the hard drive. So today i went and bought a hard drive and win xp home since thats what was previously installed. I installed the new hard drive. Now my problem is I started to install win xp i formated the drive and got it ready for install everything seems fine right untill the visual part of the install were you see the minutes it takes to install. when it reaches that point the computer shuts down on its own turns off in the middle of the install i have tried to let go several times and it does it at random i would really like to here what might be the situation for this thank you all for taking the time to hear me out :wavey:
I forgot to include the notebook model so here it is its a Compaq preserio 2700 kinda old and the hard drive i have is a 100GB seagate momentus
Couple of things… you say "kinda old"… if its too old, then the chipset wont be able to recognize that size of harddive. Also, you may be running into a proprietary issue. Im not certain on Compaq's (however I would tend to be more certain with them…being Compaq's are the most proprietary computers on the market) but on Dell's for instance, if it doesnt read $Dell$ (service tags ..or signature) at boot then you have alot to do in order to get around it. Give us a few more spec's if you dont mind, like CPU and ram. Also.. Compaq is bad about writting part of the BIOS to the harddrive. This is because they want you to pay them for servicing…(yes..rather chicken $hit in my opinion).. gimme a few minutes here and lemme see what I can come up with.
