There's this little icon in the lower right-hand corner of my screen that flashes from a question mark to a red circle with a slash through it. When I click on it, it opens an internet explorer page at http://www.virusburst.com/?aff=334. If I open IE from the start bar, the dlsearchbar hijacks the browser to http://www.theuptodatesafety.com/. I have run adaware, and it identifies dlsearchbar as the problem.

Hello pipinson,
welcome back to the TC Forums.

I have read your log. Let me suggest you copy and paste these instructions into word pad, and print it out so you can follow the steps in order.
Please read through this post since I am asking you to download specific software to assist you.

good luck
mschroe919

FIRST:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

NEXT:

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd

[external image: Posted Image]

Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

[external image: Posted Image]

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

NEXT:
Reboot to normal mode.

NEXT

Download this file from the link to your desktop.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection

Please post:

The c:\rapport.txt report
And a new hjt log

There will be more to do when I see the SmitFraud report and HJT log

Good luck
mschroe919
