Hey. I cleaned my registry a week ago with CCleaner and I accidentally deleted the backup files, mistaking them for something else. Everything seems to be working fine. Still, it would be reassuring if there was some way of finding out wether I've deleted something important or not. Most of these applications, probably all of them, are created with the purpose of removing "bad" items in the registry to prevent hijacking and such. But what I need is something that can tell me if there's something "good" that should be there, but isn't. Is there any application out there that is able to do this, or any other way of finding out? If yes, please offer some insight. Thanks. - Arash
Hello Arash,

Here's a reliable and useful article about Windows Registry.
http://www.theeldergeek.com/windows_xp_registry.htm

Are you running Windows XP?
If so, make a Restore Point and name it by calling it today's Date, so you can find it for future reference.
At least with that Restore Point created you will at least be able to always get your machine back to today's present level of functioning.

There are a variety of Registry fix routines, but since you do not mention having any specific problems with your machine, I do not know what, (if any), action may benefit you.

Registry is the main "table of addresses" for your machine, such that when you click an icon or an .exe file to load an application, the Registry tells your machine where to go look for that particular executable file.

I'd recommend that you use your machine as you ordinarily do. If you do encounter a specific difficulty with any particular application, then you can take action, or post back here with specific information and your question.

If you already cleaned up temp and temporary internet files with CCleaner, what specifically did you do to delete its backup file? Did you specifically delete any other folders or files?

Best Regards,
Doug
