Hi I am new to this website. Over the past 4-5 weeks I have had an increasing number of Windows errors. I can see no trend to when these errors happen, but they usually happen after my computer has been on for a while. Just in the last day the blue screen has appeared maybe only 30 minutes after I turn on my computer, and it seems it happens at least once or twice a day now. About 4-5 weeks ago I installed a new Logitech S 510 Keyboad, which is the only thing I can see that might be a cause for the recurring blue screen, but as I said this windows error occurs at random times under seemingly different circumstances. This has been going on long enough and I really would like to figure out the cause so I can prevent permanent damage to my computer. I have also posted a picture of the Blue Screen. Let me know if you need anymore information and how to get it. Thanks! πŸ“ŽIMG_0108_copy.jpg
Here's some more information the might help. It gave it to me after windows restarted. BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : 80543C1D BCP3 : B8751A04 BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1
Hey XFulcrumx,

Thanks for being specific about the bluescreen and error code.

But even though you've done a good job of video capture and specific error code, more information is needed to track this down.

Please give us a brief but exact description of your machine,s hardware.
If you don't know, download Everest 2.20 from MajorGeeks and run the inventory
Please tell us what Operating System you are running and what updates SP1 SP1a, SP2, etc
Did the problem "start happening" immediately after an MS update/patch?
What specific date (or close as possible) did the problem start on?
What software or hardware changes might you have made just prior to the start of the problem?

Are you overclocking?

Most often, this kind of problem relates to a bad stick of RAM.
Faulty RAM (pull all RAM, then insert only one. See if the problem re-occurs. Shut down and insert only the next RAM stick alone…See if the problem re-occurs. Add two together,…. see if the problem re-occurs, etc.)

What PagingFile/SwapDisk/Virtual Memory settings are you using?

Next most likely would be corrupted video driver, need for video driver update, or Video card itself is faulty.

What Video Card are you using?
Update the driver.
here's an example regarding ATI
Video driver,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?…=1&PA=1&SD=HSCH

Next most frequent:
Excessive Temperatures (clean out the dust bunnies.)

Next most frequent:
Corrupt System File
Run System Configuration Utility Start - Run - (type) sfc /scannow
Have your OS installation CD available since SFC may call for copy to replace a missing or corrupt file.

While many helpers may disagree about the order of frequency of problem causing this symptom, the above are certainly items to check to rule out.

Please post back as you develop more information.

Best Regards
Hi Dough,

Thanks for the help. I have Service Pack 2. The Everest Report is below, i think it includes the system information you need. I am overclocking and it has a section on that. If you need anymore information let me know.

- I don't recall the problem starting after a MSpath/update.

- It seemed to start to "get worse" around March 27th, but it happened a few times before.

- I didn't make any hardware changes prior to the problem, the only new software changes was the installation of my new keyboard

How do I find what PagingFile/SwapDisk/Virtual Memory settings I am using?

Thinking about it, RAM is probably the most likely problem like you mentioned. The only trend I can see for when these errors occur is when i am using multiple programs(although I don't know if they use that much memory) or playing a computer game. I will take out a Ram stick and see if the problem recurres, but I don't really know how long to wait since the error happens at random times. I'll also update my video drivers.

Thanks for your help Dough, let me know if you need anymore info or if I left anything out.

It's mostly on you for the heavy lifting and hard work at this time.

Check that RAM and consider updating of the Video Card Drivers.

Your temperatures are not "dangerous" but in my opinion are on the high side of ordinary.
Open up that case and blow out the dust bunnies with a can of compressed air.
Case cleaning should be a part of your routine maintenance at about 4-6 months intervals according to the dust/etc in your environment.
You can also "leave the case open" and direct ventilation onto the board via a strong Desk Fan if you have one. Look at your temperatures and see if that helps. If it does, consider additional case fans or replacement of fans that may be suspect.

You may benefit from using a RAM memory tester like "MemTest86", get it here:
http://www.memtest86.com/
it will run infinitely, but 2 or 3 full cycles will probably give you sufficient info. (each cycle takes a while, so consider running when you do not wish to use the machine for other tasks, or run overnight)

I am not competent to advise you on overclocking.
Overclocking "could" be involved in this problem, though I'd do the testing we've described first "before" making any changes in your timings or voltages.
I highly recommend the folks in this linked forum for overclocking, and suggest you post a new topic over there.
http://pcpitstop.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=10
You'll have to register and become a Member, like you did here at TomCoyote. PCPitstop is my Home Forum. They're good people too.

Please keep us posted with your results. Others here will learn from your work. Thanks

Best Regards

EDIT: Whoops I forgot about Virtual Memory

Right-click on My Computer - select Properties - select Advanced - Performance - click on Settings.
The default is to "allow windows to manage my Virtual Memory"
Many performance users prefer to set a permanent amount of HD space aside for Virtual Memory. That way Virtual Memory doesn't get scatters around in small pieces.

Select "No Virual Memory" and reboot.
You will be warned that you "may not be able to reboot your computer without Virtual Memory". You have enough Physical Memory to boot, so this need not be a concern.
When you reboot, follow the steps to Virtual Memory again and set both minimum and maximun amounts to 1.5 times the amount of Physical RAM you have installed. I think you have 1024mb RAM, therefore values of 1572mb would work.
Another "tweak" to improve Virtual Memory is to place Virtual Memory on a separate partition or separate HD. That way, your machine can freely access Virtual Memory as needed without conflict from the various gaming or applications that you may be accessing that require the extra Virtual Memory. I keep my Virtual Memory on my second (slave) drive. Leave a "small" amount of Virtual Memory (200mb) on your C:\drive (Presuming C:\ is where your have your operating system) and place the 1.5 X Physical RAM amount on a second drive.
Hey dough, Just to update you I randomly took out one of my ram chips 3 days ago and since then I have not had any blue screen errors, but I haven't had time to play any video games yet, which is when it normally happens. I'm hoping the problem is fixed. How long do you think it will take to be sure that this actually fixed the problem? Should I run the other ram chip by itself a few days from now to see if I get a blue screen with it? -Fulcrum
