I was not aware of the restrictions as described in the "New Members" post when I first replied to a post here. (It says "authorized members" in the guidelines at the top, but I didn't know what that meant.) Anyway, that reply was not removed but my reply to that person's next HJT log (because apparently the problem was not resolved) was. I understand now why, but I have a problem with that decision nonetheless. In my reply I asked this person to contact me, as I have reason to believe that it is someone I know that I've lost contact with a long time ago, and I also explained that I wrote this as a reply because the board for some reason does not allow me to use the PM feature. All I get is the error message "You are not allowed to use the messenger feature on this board", and something similar for email too. I hope the mods understand that it is important to me to get back in touch with this person, and although I realize that this is not what this board is meant for I seem to have no other way to let that person know I'm looking for them. I will be eternally grateful if someone will resolve the problem with PM (if it is not by design), or otherwise offer me an alternative way of getting in touch with this person. You can't use PM or EMAIL until it says "Authentic Member" (In your "Group") I think you acquire those "privileges" when you get to 10 posts. Other than that, I'm afraid I can't be much help....

Thanks for your reply anyway. Now my next question is, how would I go about that (unless just having this discussion would already take me up to 10 posts )? If I'm not allowed to reply to posts, and I have no logs to post myself, it seems that all I have to offer is general chatting and ranting in the OPEN forum (which will probably just annoy people because I don't think I have anything of interest to say.) Summarized, my question is: what can I do to contribute to this forum in a meaningful way while I'm waiting to become an "Authentic Member"? Thanks again for your time, Timo.

Well.... When I first replied to this post, you had 3 posts. Then you replied. Now it says you have 4 posts... <hint><hint> As a "side note", there is a "time limit" that must be breached between posts in the same thread or they're just "merged". I think it's somewhere around 3 to 5 minutes....

This was your reply that I moved out of that person's log. You're not permitted to post fixes in HJT logs for good reason.

Hello again. I'd be glad to help you out and take another look at your log and figure out how to get rid of the spyware/malware once and for all. But if you don't mind, I have a question for you first. I used to know someone with the same first name as you, and I haven't been able to get back in touch with her for a long time.
I have found out that her name is quite unique, and this combined with the information from your log tells me that it is very likely that you are the same person. If this is the case, you will know who I am and I'd like to ask you to contact me on MSN or through email. If not, I sincerely apologize for bothering you, and will still gladly help you with your problem.

Micah, thanks for the suggestion. LDTate, I will gladly take you up on that offer when I have more time, but I hope you understand that right now I am becoming a little impatient. The reason for this is that the person in question has updated her profile enough for me to be 100% sure that it is her, and although I do not intend to "abuse" this forum by spamming it just to get my Authentic Member status (after all someone is paying for this site) I hope you don't mind if at this time I'm not going to wait on the lessons just to get started on posting here. I'll try to find some subjects that I can make a useful contribution too, but please bear with me when it is obvious that I'm just trying to raise my posts. Greets, Timo.

Quite inconvenient that right at the time I was about to reply to a subject there was a problem with the MySQL server... Anyway, I'll continue looking for posts that I can send a sensible reply to, but I just want to stress that naturally I don't mean to break the rules while doing so. Also, even if I end up not being much of a help on this board, I believe that being given the chance to get back in touch with someone that was lost for such a long time is definitely worth something, and as I feel that this board deserves support anyway because of its value to the community, I'll look into updating my PayPal account so that I can donate a good amount of money. Let's hope the board will continue to run stable now. I finally managed to post a real reply, but I hope no one objects to me making up for time lost when the board was down by writing this reply here. Obviously this topic deserves to be removed once I'm done. Although it might not seem that way I hate to be cheating like this, but as I can't reply to HJT logs and I don't believe bumping ancient posts in the OPEN forum would be a good idea, I don't seem to have much of an option right now. Ack, I'm suddenly getting tired and would better go to sleep. Ofcourse now that I'm so close it wouldn't be wise to quit yet. Anyway I decided that it wouldn't be wise to post an actual reply anywhere now that I'm so tired, as I do want my posts to actually make sense. So I'm crossing my fingers that this is the post I need to enable PM... if not, I'm out of luck as I can't stay up much longer even if I wanted to.

Ouch! It says her personal messenger is disabled. I hate to ask you for another favor but it'd be a real shame if all this was for nothing. Is there anything you mods can do to help me out with this? By no means do I want to bug this person, just let her know that I'm looking for her and request that she contacts me on MSN or email (the addy is in my profile), from then on it's up to her if she responds or not.
