Please help! Annoying popups and NetMon which REFUSES to be delete

I've been getting loads of popups, like one in every five minutes. When I ran Spybot, it found two problems that it couldn't fix, one of them being Netmon. Please help! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. You have a couple of different infections.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop from the link below:
http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=7

Close all windows before continuing.
Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 1 minute. Click OK
When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
Your computer will then shutdown.
Turn your computer back on.

Please post the contents of Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log and we'll get the rest of it.

OK, please do this now….

1. Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
  • Right-click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
  • Click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
2. RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download alcanshorty.bfu.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Do not do anything with these yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
  • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
  • In the Scriptline to execute field type or paste c:\bfu\alcanshorty.bfu
  • Press Execute and let it do it’s job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
  • Wait for the Complete script execution box to pop up and hit OK.
  • Press Exit to terminate the BFU program.
Reboot and post a fresh HJT log, MrC

Download and unzip the KillBox to a folder - we'll use it later.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes if listed:

outlook.exe
winlog.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running - Click Scan and…..
Place a check against the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [outlook] C:\Program Files\outlook\outlook.exe /auto
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winlog] winlog.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [winlog] winlog.exe

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.



Now open up the Killbox.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\Program Files\outlook\outlook.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlog.exe


Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Reboot and delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\outlook

Post a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC

These two 017 entries (ip addresses) look like they're from MALAYSIA, if this is NOT true - please have HJT fix them - if by any chance there's a problem you can always restore them using HJT backups.

Don't open e-mail attachments without first scanning them with an up-to-date
anti virus program, even after doing that I would be very careful. Don't click on any executables in e-mails or any other links that you're not sure of.
Watch your surfing habits, don't click on or download anything you're not sure of. Don't install a program that hasn't been recommended by a reputable organization.
