I have just started having continual popups in the last couple of weeks. I have tried everything I know of and they keep coming back. I have installed, updated and run Ad Aware, SpyBot and Microsoft's Anti-Spyware. Here's my Hijack This log:

Welcome to the forum.

Looks like you have a peper infection along with a bunch of other malware.

please do this…

1. Download Newuninst.exe.
2. Run it with an active internet connection (you must be online)
3. Reboot to finish removing the entries it found.
4. Run the tool a second time (with an active internet connection).
5. Reboot to finish removing the entries it found.

The second tool which does not require Internet Access to Clean is:
1. Please Download PeperFix.exe,
2. Start the tool and click Find and Fix
3. Reboot to finish removing what it found.
4. Run the tool a second time
5. Reboot to finish removing the entries.

Now run a couple of these free online virus scans, make sure you set them to auto-clean.

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

Reboot….

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and we'll get the rest of it, MrC

Yes it's still in the log.

Download and unzip the KillBox to a folder - we'll use it later.

HowToShowHiddenFiles - <—enable this

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running.
Place a check against the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitekjp32.exe

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Now open up the KillBox and copy and paste this in and hit delete, if the file exists, it will appear in blue under the window.

C:\windows\system32\elitekjp32.exe

The KillBox has a 'delete on reboot' or 'replace on reboot' (use dummy), use them if needed.

The KillBox creates a folder called "!submit" in C:\ , after you are done you can delete the folder.

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC
Still can't delete it. The file does not show up in blue when I type the path and filename. Did it 3 different times using all 3 options on KillBox.

How is the computer running, no more pop-ups?

Download and unzip Registry Search Tool (RegSrch.zip) at the link below, it's about two thirds of the way down on the list.
http://billsway.com/vbspage/

Run the program and search for elitekjp32.exe
Post the results back here. MrC
Still having popups almost continually. Most of them are for registry scanning, pc cleaning and stuff like that. Here's the results of the search: REGEDIT4 ; RegSrch.vbs © Bill James ; Registry search results for string "elitekjp32.exe" 5/3/2005 9:30:42 PM ; NOTE: This file will be deleted when you close WordPad. ; You must manually save this file to a new location if you want to refer to it again later. ; (If you save the file with a .reg extension, you can use it to restore any Registry changes you make to these values.) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "checkrun"="C:\\windows\\system32\\elitekjp32.exe"
Something else for you to do, this will scan the complete drive for malware and give us a report:

Click here http://www.mwti.net/download/tools/mwav.exe to download mwavscan.

Double-click it to run it, select all local drives, scan all files, press 'scan' and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
Highlight it, CTRL C and paste it in your next reply.

It's going to take a while to scan and if you get a pop-up to buy the program, just X it out.

MrC
You mean like an instant messenger? I have MSN Messenger installed on that pc, but I rarely, if ever, use it. That's the only instant messenger I have on there. Yep, the pop-ups are still as bad. I probably won't be home again until tomorrow evening, so I won't get to do anything until then. Thanks so much for helping me out. I tried everything I knew to do and got nowhere.

Yes that's what I mean, it's a BIG source of pop-ups, you can turn if off with this small program:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/messengerutil.html

Try that first and let me know.
Do you know how to navigate in the registry?
