Hello everyone,
It seems no matter what I've run on my computer, I can't seem to get rid of that dreaded Winantivirus popup! So far I've run Norton antivirus, Adaware, Spybot search and destroy and it hasn't seemed to fix my problem so if anyone has a solution to this I'd be very greatful! I'm posting the logfile from Hijack This………….Thank you! Gail

Please go to these free online file checkers:

Kaspersky Online File Scanner

Jotti Online File Scanner

VirusTotal Online File Scanner

And submit this file for a virus scan:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msafapi.dll

Let me know the results.

Are the popups gone?
It says that the file is infected by Trojan-Downloader.Win32.ConHook.aa What is that? So far no popups from Winantivirus yet?
Let's give this method a try.

Download Killbox from here:

Killbox.zip © Option^Explicit

Unzip it, but don't run it yet.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O20 - Winlogon Notify: msafapi - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msafapi.dll

Then click "Fix checked" & close Hijack This!

Now, run Killbox.

In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".

Paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msafapi.dll

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

When the machine reboots, "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)
Ok, this the new Hijack This logfile………………..

Good job!!!

Just a little cleanup…

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {b40a00ec-cf15-4b64-863f-f0eb97562203} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msafapi.dll (file missing)

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot.

You'll find that file:

msafapi.dll

Is now in this folder:

C:\!KillBox

Killbox makes backups of things it removes.

Delete msafapi.dll from the C:\!KillBox folder, and you should be "good to go".

Thank you for choosing TomCoyote for your malware removal solutions.

Post Infection Items To Ponder
Wonderful!! That file is finally deleted from my computer yaaaay!!! Thank you so much for your time and help, I really appreciate it :) Any advice on what software to run to protect myself from this again?
You could consider installing SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster. Links are here:

You can also check/adjust your browser settings here:

Jasons Toolbox

Other than that, and watching what you click-on/download, you have all the necessary "protections".
:)
Thank you again for all of your time and efforts to help me rid myself of that dreadful WinAntivirus popup. And also for your advice :) Have a great evening!
