I have a windows 2000 server with about 10 workstations running off of two hubs. For the last several months, we have noticed that around the same time every day, communication with the server is very slow. During the day, it would take a split second the open a file from the server, but during the slow down it can take 5 to 10 seconds. This happen around 5:00-5:30 everyday. Everyone is still working and no one is shutting down or saving files. I can find no scheduled tasks on any workstation or the server that might cause this slow down. I have found no virus on any workstation or the server.
The guy that set up the network about four or five years ago is now in jail. The system has been running fine since he set it up. Before I go and hire a new network guy, are there any tricks I can try? Is there a log I could look at that might help pin point the cause?
In the three years since I have been without a net work guy, I have tried to learn the system and I know my way around some of it.
Anyone have any suggestions?
