I've installed Command and Conquer Generals on two PC's today, with no errors, then while trying to install it to a laptop, with better specs than both the PC's, it generated an error saying: Error 1311.Source file not found: D:\Language.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. Now, obviously this file's not missing, as it worked just perfectly earlier today. This is the ORIGINAL disc, not a burnt copy, so there's no possibility of a corrupt download. Any suggestions that will allow me to fix this? I mean, I could try reburning this CD to another CD, and then download language.cab off Ares, replace it on the CD, and hope that it works, but i'd rather not fart around with downloading system files off of Ares. The laptop is: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 HP AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3400+ 797 MHz 512 MB of RAM
I agree with you. Don't compound you difficulty by using a P2P source. Uninstall if your game appears in Add/Remove, Delete its folder to dump any remnants, and then try the install again. Best Regards
Tried that twice already. It doesn't get far enough in the install to make an entry in the "Add/Remove Programs" and as far as deleting all files related to it, i do that every time befor trying a re-install. Who doesn't do that? You're taking a chance of having software conflicts aren't you? Any other suggestions.
Any chance you are attempting to install with a username login that does not have Administrative Privileges?
If so, login as Administrator.

Any chance that you could "copy" the entire installation disc to the Laptop Hard Drive and then install from that copied location?

You receive the following error while installing :
Error 1311: Source file not found: …

This problem is caused when the "Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only" local security policy in Windows is set.

There may also be a registry "fix" for this, but I'm still looking into this.
Hopefully the Administrator login, or the copy first and install will work around the CD-ROM restriction.

Best Regards
Hey, I got frustrated to the point where I burnt all the files from the cd, to a drone computer, extracted all the files from the zipped files that were contained on the cd, and then sat beside one of the other computers that i had previously installed the game on this morning, and manually typed in EVERY file, seeing where it was sent to, and placed the file there. I also carefully found every registry file and created registry files for all those. The game now works, AMAZINGLY, without any registration keys or cd's, as it is all on my computer. Thanks for the advice :)
