My laptop computer running Windows XP will not hold the date and time. I notice a message at start-up indicating cmos? settings wrong, time and date not set. It will hold time and date change from control panel as long as you don't shut-down. Thanks for your time and effort. Emulsion Man
You need to change the CMOS (Configuration Memory Operating System) battery. There normally located under the keyboard, however, with laptops, this could be a bit more complicated. I suggest you take it to your closest "mom and pops" computer repair store and have them change it for you. Unless, that is, you feel comfortable with doing it. (its really not that difficult, its more a pain in the neck. You'll have to take out 148 little tiny screws THEN find the "secret" screw because theres always one you cant find. Just make sure that if you do this yourself….remember that nothing needs to pryed or forced. If it dont come right off.. or go right back on.. then theres something in the way or another screw some were)
