I purchased a compaq amada e500 with no OS.I have deleted and created new partition in fdisk and formatted.I am trying to install 98 with boot up floppy and w98 cd and it stops with the error SU-0013.It says "If you have HPFS or Windows NT file system you must create an ms dos boot partition. If you have Lantastic server or Superstor compression, disable it before running setup". What do i need to do? Thanks for any help.
Put in the Windows 98 startup floppy…make sure and choose to "start WITH cd rom support". Watch closely as it loads everything from the floppy disk, as it will show you which drive is your cd drive letter. If it says that C: drive is your virtual drive then you may have a problem (which, if so, post back if it does and will go through that then) When its finished loading and it shows your cd drive letter (which should be "D") then type D:\setup.exe and hit enter. Rather or not this will work depends on several things but first, follow those instructions and post back as to the outcome. (Compaq's and HP's (same company now) are the worst about formatting. You dont want to format from the command line there because they write part of the bios to the hard drive. So when you format from the command line you write over it.)
