I keep getting a pop up that my windows registry needs to be fixed. I tracked it to a program named crss.exe but do not know how to remove it. I have spybot and reg edit and hijack this but neither worked.
Have to be careful on this one. What operating system are you using? in NT/2000/XP csrss.exe is part of the windows operating system. What is telling you that csrss.exe is a problem? Does it refer to a specific worm or trojan? csrss - csrss.exe - Process Information Process File: csrss or csrss.exe Process Name: Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem Description: csrss.exe is the main executable for the Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem. This process manages most graphical commands in Windows. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. Note: csrss.exe is also process which is registered as the W32.Netsky.AB@mm worm, the W32.Webus Trojan, Win32.Ladex.a and more. This virus is distributed via the Internet through e-mail and comes in the form of an e-mail message, in the hopes that you open it’s hostile attachment. The worm has it’s own SMTP engine which means it gathers E-mails from your local computer and re-distributes itself. In worst cases this worm can allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. It is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately. The csrss in windows/system32 directory is the one that is part of the operating system. A trojan or worm might have installed a csrss.exe in the windows directory windows or windows\system. The file Csrss.exe has the same file name as a system file that reside in the %windir%\System32 folder. If you delete this files manually, make sure that you delete the copies that are in the home folder and not the ones in the System32 folder. It is possible that one of the cleanup program removed the worm csrss.exe but left a reference to it in the registry.
:( Thanks for your help. I am using windows xp and its the pop up that says I need to fix my windos registry and sends me to different web sites. When I followed the process through my task manager it sayed it was the csrss.exe that was running the pop up. How do I remove it and where do I find it. Thanks again :wavey:
