My computer was just freed from malware by your forum but my mouse pointer keeps showing the hourglass every two minutes.

History: The computer had annoying popups pop every second. Before the popup, the mouse pointer would show the hourglass. Now the popups are obliterated but the hourglass still shows up every two minutes.

If you don't use mail.kora.com then you can delete that. It looks like a web hosting site or maybe ISP. I don't read korean and the translation services don't make it look any better.

Also use HijackThis to fix the following (just some cleanup, nothing malicious)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Lets try something simple before we go digging. Open up task manager (ctrl+alt+delete), click view > update speed and make sure it is set to high.
Full screen task manager and select the processes tab, click the names column so everything is in alpha order.
Scroll the list so you don't see "system idle process" (system idle process always has a high number, unless something else is using the cpu).
Rest your mouse pointer in a central area, wait for the busy cursor and then look down the CPU column for a high number. If you don't see one then scroll the list so you can see any process names that weren't visible before and then do the same thing again. It will probably take a few tries to nail down the culprit (if it shows up this way).
Let us know what you find out.
I deleted the files from Hijack and changed the speed from normal to high. This was hard to spot. The CPU spikes up for EWIDOGUARD.EXE (SYSTEM) and another MSMSGS.EXE appears. When the hourglass shows up, the eidoguard.exe spikes and a duplicate msmgs.exe shows up. :(
Ewido is spiking because it needs to scan the msmsgs process that is loaded into memory.

msmsgs.exe is the MSN Messenger chat client. Do you use that program? If so, have you applied any third party patches to it?

Download Faber Toys. You should be able to go with the small installation given that you are on XP. If you have a broadband connection then download the full installation package to be on the safe side.
Install the program and run it.
Click Settings>Options>Dependencies and uncheck "Delete from process list … " then click ok
Wait for the busy cursor and then scroll through the list and look for the new msmsgs file. If it opens and then closes it should be grey instead of black.
Grab the horizontal scroll bar and drag it until you see the "Executed By" column. Copy what you see there and type it in as a reply in this thread (you will have to write it out, you cannot use copy to get that columns info). That is the command line or process that started the program.
How can I remove msn? I couldn't find it in my add/remove program. A few months ago when I downloaded/applied the windows service pack patch, msn messenger was downloaded with the patch. Now it's located in my program files. In the future, if I want to use msn will I experience similar problems? excecuted column: SVCHOST.EXE Thanks! :weee:
I'm not familiear with configuring or using MSN Messenger. I have never used it in fact.
Here is what I would do first. Run the program and check in any options you find for settings to disable it. I have seen some articles around on the net that say that even when you set the options correctly messenger still won't go away. If you have that problem then try the advice posted at the following link.
http://www.updatexp.com/disable-messenger-msn.html
If you are not comfortable working in the registry let me know and I'll put together a file that will do what is suggested in that article for you.
I'm uncomfortable working with the registries (don't understand it). I'm ok with the hourglass showing up as long as the "endless" popups never come back. Thanks for all your help. :weee:
