When your computer boots normally, you will get a single beep – that is the "output" of the Power On Self Test, aka the POST. The single beep means "all is well" and the computer passed all the tests.
If you are getting more than one beep, the computer is indicating that one of the tests failed, and the number of beeps is significant. When you indicate it emits beeping sounds, you should count them – they will translate into a number that indicates what test failed. It may be something like 1 beep followed by a brief pause followed by 5 more beeps, or something like that. These POST codes as they are referred to are motherboard specific. My guess is that you are facing an impending hardware failure.
A reference site I have used in the past is here (see the links at the top right of the page for the different codes). If you feel qualified to go inside the computer case and change hardware you may want to count the beeps, use this site to interpret what they mean, and decide what needs to be changed out. Otherwise, you may want to get help from the manufacturer or a qualified local technician. In either event, I would suggest the next time you successfully get it to boot you make sure your backups of critical information that you want to make sure you don't lose are current.
