I have followed instructions several times to get rid of this. It seems to still be there and I keep getting sent to other sites. I have ran every spyware that I can find. I also followed directions from Hijack this and eliminated several items. However, that did not seem to solve the problem. Below is my log. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks , Frank

Hi bulleye,

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

You are running the correct version of HJT but from the wrong place. The following is probably the easiest way to get it right:

1) First DELETE your current version of HijackThis

2)Download the most current version of Hijackthis (v.1.99.1)to a folder of its own. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Please go to your 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' and name the folder 'HijackThis'.

B. Download Hijackthis from:HERE

C. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.
———————————

3. After you have HJT in the right folder, please proceed.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
O2 - BHO: ohb - {999A06FF-10EF-4A29-8640-69E99882C26B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rtneg3.dll
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = ?

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rtneg3.dll

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren
Thanks, my server was down all day yesterday. I followed your instructions, but I was unable to find C:\windows\system32\rtneg3.dll. Below is the most recent file log.

Your support is greatly appreciated. This is the first time I have ever had anything take over my computer. If there is more to do, let me know.

Thanks again,
Hi bullseye,

It has morphed into another form.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
. Click the Config button located in the lower right hand corner of the HijackThis window.
. When the new screen opens, find and click the Miscellaneous Tools button.
. Then choose the Open Process Manager button.
. From the list of processes, hilight the following items by clicking them, ONE AT A TIME, then DELETE them by clicking the KILL button:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\abasa5jrp.exe

Once all items have been KILLED, click the Back button which will return you to the HijackThis main window. Now place a check mark beside the following item:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [abasa5jrp] C:\WINDOWS\system32\abasa5jrp.exe

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\abasa5jrp.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

If it morphs again, we will get out the big gun.

Regards,

Trevuren
Here is the latest log. I did find abasa5jrp.exe. I noted that I am now getting multiple copies of emails that were deleted days ago. 73 old emails just came in with this reboot.

Hi bullseye,

Congratulations, your new log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:

TO DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1. Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
2. Left click on "System Restore Tab"
3. Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
4. Left click on "Apply"

TO ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1.Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
2.Click on "Apply"

2. Another cleanup that will help is to go to Start>Programs>Acccessories>System Tools> Disk Cleanup and put a check mark beside all the entries in the disk cleanup window that ask you what you want to clean. Clean all hard drives and all files. This will get rid of any malware that is hiding in the temporary folders.

3. Make sure that all are gone, by checking the folders that the Temporary Internet Files and Temp files are stored in. To do so use Control Panel > Internet Options(or right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Properties). Click Delete Files on the General Tab - place a check in the Delete all offline content box, then 'Clear History' and then press OK (or go direct to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofilename\Local Settings\Temp\ folder) and
C:\Documents and Settings\userprofilename\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\)

4. Empty your Recycle Bin

5. Double Check the following folders to make sure they are empty:
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\your account\Temporary Internet Files
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp\ folder (or go direct to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofilename\Local Settings\Temp\ folder) and C:\Documents and Settings\userprofilename\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\)

6. You may find that you have to repeat the steps a couple of times.

7.Finally, Re-hide your System Files and Folders to prevent any future accidents.

Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My Favorite)

Trevuren

Hi, you were extremely helpful in ridding my computer of junk yesterday. Tonight and come home and turned it on and it is back. I know that no popups were clicked on, and only 3 web sites have been accessed. This is getting quite frustrating, I wish I could determine what started it all. Please help once again.
