When I'm at my desktop, the taskbar at the bottom of my screen is there, with the start button and everything, but when i open internet explorer or mozilla firefox it's not there anymore. how do i fix this?

Does your Taskbar disappear? The icons for IE and Firefox disappear? IE or Firefox doesn't open when you click the icons?
If its the Taskbar that disappears when you open IE or Firefox… right click on the Taskbar and choose Properties. Make sure the box beside "Keep the Taskbar on top of other Windows" is checked.
