Please help , :rant2: I have stumbled across this forum ( and joined ) in one of my many attempts over the past months to rid my pc of the horrible little icon / program called " mp3 to the max ". I have been onto the Kephyr.com site and attempted to follow the posted manual removal instructions on it, but when i follow the 1 - 7 steps my pc doesn't list that what is written under the proceedure. ( tried to contact them , but no response ) Can anyone help, I have to be honest after looking on this site i feel way out of my depth as everyone seems very experienced pc users. and I probably will get blanked ! But maybe someones got the patience to assist me. Thanks Andy

I have been onto the Kephyr.com site and attempted to follow the posted manual removal instructions

Could you post a link to that so I can try to help?

I can't find any info. :(
Hi Micah_6.8 www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/mostrardialer.b/index.phtml Should get you to the page showing manual removal directions for Mostrar Dialer.b which basically is mp3tothemax icon / program that I picked up whilst downloading an mp3 software. I tried using Bazooka and Spyware to get rid of it first. but it didn't work which is what led me to the manual removal steps. My problem with the steps are due to my lack of understanding as to what it is im doing to my pc: step 2: When i highlight the " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE tab on the left part of the screen then right click to view my tabs the delete option is not highlighted ( which is what their asking you to delete ) I could highlight and delete whats listed on the right side of the screen ( Default . etc.. ) but decided not to because Im not sure if thats what their asking me to do. If it ok to go ahead and delete the one line listed on the right part of the screen I could then move on to step 3 " HKEY_CURRENT_USER ( Although, none of their 8 listings appear on the right to delete ) Do you think its safe to delete the right side list in step 2 ? so that i can try to move on with attempting manual removal. Thank you for your time and patience
I believe we can do this using Hijack This!

Please do this:

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Download HijackThis into this folder.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

Links to Hijack This! v 1.98.2:

http://tools.radiosplace.com/HijackThis.exe
http://spywarewarrior.com/files/HijackThis.exe

Run it from that folder.

Click "Scan".

DO NOT "FIX" ANYTHING WITH IT YET!!!
FIXING THE WRONG THING COULD RENDER YOUR SYSTEM INOPERABLE!!!

Click "Save log".

Reply to this thread, and "copy/paste" the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the log file into this thread.
:)
Hi Micah 6.8

Ok, I have carefully followed the instructions, it did ask me to save the log in my documents, but I decided to save it in the newly created HJT Folder instead as I was not sure if that was just for storeing the program or all of it.
Here s the pasted log list, I have not run the fix yet as instructed.
Look forward to your reply…fingers crossed ;)

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\windows\system32\msa64chk.dll <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

This takes care of steps 3 thru 7 in the "Manual Removal" link you supplied.

If you want to do steps 1 and 2, please do this:

Download: Registry Search Tool (RegSrch.zip) [freeware]
http://billsway.com/vbspage/

Open the Registry Search tool (RegSrch.vbs) and enter: {582788CA-7014-4904-A4EE-6FB6108AFE8E} and post the contents found. If your antivirus pops up (like mine did), tell it to allow this script to run.
Hello Micah_6:8

Right, You made me sweat then, but i finally got through it trouble free.
Once I finished and rebooted in normal mode, I went straight back and reversed show hidden files I trust that was the correct thing to do ? I was not sure when / if to put this back to normal , but guessed my settings should 'nt be left like this?
Then I ran HJT to scan a new log ( which I saved / replacing the old one ) and here it is below:
Now im off to go through steps 1 - 7 and will return a 2nd post of my findings… Thanks again for your help so far.

Hello again Micah_6:8

Cont………..

I downloaded reg tool and opened it and entered {582788CA-7014-4904-A4EE-6FB6108AFE8E} but it came up as " no instances found "
Then I went back to run through steps 1 - 7

1) start the registry editor and regedit
2) delete 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Classes \ CLSID \ {582788CA-7014-4904-A4EE-6FB6108AFE8E} but again this is all thats shown in the left hand pane HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ( actually shown ) and in the right pane default reg_sz ( value not set ) but still my delete option is not highlighted in the pop downscreen
3) 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER also again is all that is actually displayed on the left screen and when i click on it none of the values appear in the right pane?

i wondered if i made a mistake ( maybe reversing hidden files back to normal setting when I should have left them set as you said ? ) so I activated show hidden files again and ran through reg tool and steps 1 - 3 again…but same results occured.

Tricky one

Await your advise
Thankyou

Andy
My last post took care of steps 3 to 7 in the manual fix.

If the regsearch tool found nothing, then steps 1 and 2 cannot be done, so the program is gone from your system (according to the fix, and it's NOT in the latest log file).

Happy Holidays!!!

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

Dear Micah_6:8 Oh Yesssss Right you are, all gone !! I was just being fooled by the icon hanging around ( now thats something i do know how to get rid of :D ) Really pleased with you helping me ,I guess I will donate to this site as a thank you. Have a great Christmas God Bless You
