Trouble Downloading Software

I'm probably not posting this in the right place if not I'm sorry. I have home search on my computer and I cannot get it removed, I've tried ad-aware and it locks up. So I tried to download spybot and cwshredder and when they download they load to the windows media player and I can't change the location of the download, is this because of the home search? And is there anything at all I can do to destroy this thing it is driving me absolutely nuts! Thank so much, Angela
