Hello Hanabee,

Looks like we are getting somewhere though the hijack is still there. It appears that the infected added service has not been removed so I will have to ask you to repeat some of the steps I gave you previously. I have listed the steps to follow here:

Step#1:

Please save these instructions to WordPad so that you have them accessible while following the steps. You also may want to print out these directions as the Internet will not be available. You must disconnect from the internet totally, as staying connected while fixing will prevent the fix from working. Also please keep Internet Explorer closed throughout as opening it will reinstall the infection. Read through all the instructions so that you can ask any questions now, before you disconnect from the Internet.

You have SpywareGuard installed and running. It will prevent the fix from working. Any protective programs such as WinPatrol, Ad-Watch, Spyware Guard, and several others need to be disabled for any fix to work. Please disable SpywareGuard before starting the steps. You may have to uninstall it to disable it. Antivirus software and a Firewall are all that should be running for protection. Once your computer is clean you can re-install and activate this.

Step#2:

Please disconnect from the Internet and unplug your modem for the duration of this fix

Then close all programs and windows and run the new version(if possible) of Hijackthis. Put a checkmark next to each of these entries and click 'fix checked' button when ready (some may be gone after uninstalling some programs):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\tkkww.dll/sp.html#28129

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\tkkww.dll/sp.html#28129

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\tkkww.dll/sp.html#28129

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\tkkww.dll/sp.html#28129

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\tkkww.dll/sp.html#28129

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Step#3:

In the next step we are going to remove the service that is still installed on your computer.

1. Open Registrar Lite and run it.

2. Copy and paste the bold text below into the address bar of Registrar Lite:(this is making a Registry backup for safety in case of error)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\

Go to File> Export and and save as (in the C:\Program Files\Registrar Lite (Reglite) folder):

1.) Winkey.reg (Save as type: regedit4 .reg type)
2.) Winkey.hiv (Save as type: Scroll to select-regetd32/WinAPI *hiv *dat files)

3. Copy and paste the bold text below into the address bar of Reglite:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\

3. Click Go

4. Highlight the folder(key) in the left hand pane named Services

5. Look at each entry in the right hand pane and locate the one named O?’ŽrtñåȲ$Ó

6. Highlight O?’ŽrtñåȲ$Ó in the right hand pane , right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

5. Copy and Paste the bold text below into the address bar of Registrar Lite:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\

6. Click Go

4. Highlight the folder(key) in the left hand pane named Root

5. Look at each entry in the right hand pane and locate the one named
LEGACY_O?’ŽrtñåȲ$Ó

6. Highlight LEGACY_O?’ŽrtñåȲ$Ó in the right hand pane , right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

7. If you have trouble deleting a key. Then click once on the key name to highlight it and on the top menu choose Security, then Edit Permissions. Then make sure you are an Administrator and give yourself Full Control of that key. Then click on everyone and put a checkmark in "full control". Then press apply and ok and attempt to delete the key again.

8. If you have had to change the permissions on the keys in Registrar Lite then they will have to be returned to the way they were . To do this please navigate to C:\ProgramFiles\Registrar Lite (Reglite) and double-click on Winkey.reg. It will ask if you want to merge this file with the registry, say Yes. Then double-click on Winkey.hiv and merge this file with the Registry. You have now returned the permissions to the way they were.
** if you needed to use #8 above last time, please let me know as this may be the reason the service is still showing in the log file and it is an orphan entry because there is no file now**

Step#4:

Copy the contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
Name the file as fix.reg
Change the Save as Type to All Files
and Save it on the desktop

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\HSA]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SE]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SW]

Then double-click on the fix.reg file, and when it prompts to merge say yes, and this will clear some registry entries left behind by the process.

Step#5:

1.Reboot your computer back to normal mode and Scan again with HijackThis. We still have a few steps to complete but a log file at this time would be helpful.

2. Post your log from HijackThis here in this thread with any questions or problems that you have run into. There are still some steps that are necessary to clear out all of the malware. There will be necessary files that it has deleted that will need to be replaced.

Good Luck!

hi hanabee

This looks much better! How is your computer behaving? There are still a few steps to go including replacing windows system files that the infection has deleted and tidy up any leftovers.

Step#1:

Now you need to see if you need to restore some deleted files:
  • Please check for the following files using the Windows Search Engine:

  • control.exe
  • rundll32.exe
  • wmplayer.exe
  • msconfig.exe
  • notepad.exe
  • shell.dll
  • SDHelper.dll

If any are missing or not working properly then you can download new copies from
Merijn's Files and following the instructions at that site to have them where they belong for your OS.

  • Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program. This will restore the original deleted Hosts file.
  • This infection often deletes some system files that need to be replaced. The most frequent one it deletes is shell.dll in Win2K or XP. In XP there are two copies of this file, one in Windows (WINNT) and one in Windows\System32. It does not delete the one in Windows\System so it does not affect Win9x/ME. If you find it missing, please copy the shell.dll from c:\windows\system32\dllcache into both \Windows (WINNT) and Windows\System32 .
  • The other system file which is most frequently deleted is control.exe. Please check to make sure that you have this file and it is the correct size. If not Please check for the existence of this file by going to to Merijn's Files (sdhelper) and examine where the file should be for your operating system. If the file is missing then download the appropriate file and place it in the proper place according to the information at this website. The control.exe is more often deleted in Win9x/ME.
  • If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file. Go here: Merijn's Files (sdhelper) and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing you Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy). Then click Start > Run > regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll" and press the OK button
Step#2:

Run an online antivirus scan at:

Trend Micro Online AV

Reboot

Step#3:

1. Scan again with HijackThis

2. POST your log file to see if there is anything left to fix and to receive final instructions.
Hi, done as said. When I was running virus scan kept getting messages saying I had virus trojan horse but has stopped now I rebooted, seems to be running fine. Here is latest scan.

hanabee
it looks clean now Congratulations! I would do a couple of online AV scans to make sure the viruses and trojans are gone.

I think you would benefit from looking at the link at the bottom of each of my posts How Did I Get Infected In The First Place for some extra protection to prevent this happening again. You should also have a Firewall there are a couple of free ones that you will find links to in those articles.
There are a few things you should do now to make sure you are completely clean:

1. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.

2. Another cleanup that will help is to go to Start>Programs>Acccessories>System Tools> Disk Cleanup and put a check mark beside all the entries in the disk cleanup window that ask you what you want to clean. Clean all hard drives and all files. This will get rid of any malware that is hiding in the temporary folders.

3. Make sure that all Internet Temp files are gone, by checking the folders that the Temporary Internet Files and Temp files are stored in. To do so use Control Panel > Internet Options(or right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Properties). Click Delete Files on the General Tab - place a check in the Delete all offline content box, then 'Clear History' and then press OK

4. Empty your Recycle Bin

5. Double Check the following folders to make sure they are empty:
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\your account\Temporary Internet Files
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp\ folder

6. You may find that you have to repeat the steps a couple of times.

7. You do not appear to have a firewall running and there are a few available for free that have excellent reputations:
Zone ALarm Free Firewall
Kerio Free Firewall

8. I think you may benefit from reading the article "How Did I Get Infected In The First Place" linked at the bottom of this post, for information on how to secure your PC from spyware/adware/malware.There are several small free programs mentioned there that help with securing your PC against this type of problem.
I am glad that we were able to help! I am closing this topic now, but if you need it reopened, please send an email to the following link(Click for address) with the Subject line of the email "Reopen".
To receive a response, please include in your email: the user name used in the post, details of why you need it reopened, and a valid link to the post.

Emails with bad links to the post, emails that are not from the original poster, and emails that do not have "ReOpen" as the subject line, will be deleted without being opening.

Please start a New Topic if this is not your thread. Thank-you for your co-operation.
