Hello Folks,

I need Your Help to get  a HP Notebook up and running.

It's a HP Note Book 15 hp 8. Series That's all I Know about it.

Can't seem to find how to get into the RAM.

Any Suggestions?

The Machine won't boot up?

Thanks

Marty

Hi Marty,

I can't find a data sheet for a 15HP8 notebook computer. This usually means either it's an incredibly rare model or that is not its full and correct name!

If you want me to look it up for you with the data sheet/owners manual etc then I'll need you to examine carefully the exterior of the computer for a name, model number etc. Look for a data plate ( can be either a "Stick on" label, or embossed/engraved into the plastic usually on the underside)

HP made literally thousands of models hence the importance of full and accurate details of the actual model and any other identifying marks.

In the meantime on a lot of HP notebook computers    there is a "hatch" on the underside of the computer usually held in place by a screw or two. If you remove (carefully) the screws the RAM modules are often to be found there and can be removed/replaced easily  don't forget to use full anti static precautions when doing this sort of thing) and it goes without saying that the mains lead must be completely disconnected from the electrical outlet, and any other cables removed (Ethernet etc) and of course the battery removed before opening any hatches on the computer.  Finally check and double check that all peripherals, USB flash Drives CD's or DVD's or any other stuff has been emptied removed. When all the leads and battery have been removed press the "power on" switch and hold it on for 15 seconds, wait for 5 seconds and then repeat the 15 seconds of pressing and holding on the "power on" switch.

It may sound odd to hear me recommend pressing the "power on" switch when there is no electric cable or battery connected, but this procedure is designed to discharge the electricity stored internally within the capacitors present within your computer.

To attempt to boot up your computer plug into the computer the electrical wire from the "Black brick" power supply/charger unit, reconnect the mains electric cable via the "Black Brick"  to the mains electrical outlet (wall socket) but do not connect the battery for the time being. Press the "power on switch and hold for one second only ( just as you would for a normal startup) and then you should see some lights appear or hear (or feel the vibration) of the hard drive begin to spin up,

A CD or DVD if present in the tray at startup will be sufficient to prevent proper booting up of your computer so do make sure its empty….. there is usually a tiny hole almost the exact size of the wire from which a small paper clip is made, ( located fairly close to the button used to open the tray when the machine is powered up) so to open the tray when there is no power on straighten out the paper click press the end of the wire into the tiny hole and you should hear a slight click as the tray is unlocked and it shouuld be easy to open it fully by hand to check for any lurking CD's

Finally check the voltage of the power supply plug ( AT THE COMPUTER END) for most HP machines it should be 19V….. the internal connector of the plug is VE+ and the outer is VE-. You can check this is 19V by looking at the data "sticky" or plate on the underside of the computer it will be labelled " output voltage" or something similar.

NOTE If you are not experienced at checking voltages with a  volt meter or multi meter then ask a competent computer technician or electrician to do this part.

Post back and let us know how you get on.

Regards
