Hi,  I just went through cleaning my computer, see this thread       https://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=130591#entry876140

Now I'm having an new issue. I work in Adobe Illustrator and when I try to open files, I get a pop up that says "not enough memory to open this file".

I can open Illustrator from programs and work on some files, others it won't open - memory message.

And the computer is still stalling/freezing up for short periods, then it's fine for a little while, then freezes. Goes from making a lot of noise when it's working to 0 noise when it stalls.

I also cleaned the inside of the computer already.

Thanks

Hi accentuous,

I took a brief look at your logs over in the Virus and Spyware removal forum where Ken helped you clean your computer from malicious code.

A small number of questions for you before we get started, please?

1 Does the computer freeze/stall ONLY when using Adobe applications or does it happen at other times?

2 Your System Restore Points facility is switched off…  ( on Windows 7 by default it is switched on) generally it's a good idea to have this switched on, did anyone switch it off do you know?

3 You have a number of "Microsoft Services" that are not running…. have you or anyone with access to your computer turned them off?

4 MSCONFIG has been used to disable a number of Startup items…. this is fine as part of a diagnostic procedure, but not advisable as a reliable "fix" for a longer term basis…. Have you or anyone with access to your computer used MSCONFIG for diagnostic purposes?

5 Are all your Adobe products correctly licensed to you and only Adobe genuine approved installation media ( not copies) used for their installation?

6 Have you a complete back up of everything that is important to you on your machine? (with several copies on different removable media, at least one of which is kept safe offsite?) Does it cover everything you need to keep and have you tested to see they all work OK?

7 Do you have a good up to date disc image created when your computer was working fast and sweet and before these problems started ( Disc images or System Images created using Windows native tools or software such as Macrium Reflect Free, Drive Image, Symantec, Acronis etc., etc., ?)

8 Do you still have two printers in use on this computer? a Canon and an Epson and use all the software that came packaged with each of them?

9 Do you have the Microsoft Installation discs to reinstall your Windows 7 operating System ( should it become necessary at any time) your product serial keys and installation media for Windows and all your applications….(are they in safe place and do they work OK?

10 When replying please advise the exact make and model number of your computer, and if it is your intention to switch operating system to Windows 10 within the foreseeable future?

If you can let us know all the above it will help us formulate a way forward.

Regards
