Hello, I have just started to have this problem, I have 4 GB Ram, on a 64x system. Once I was playing Mass effect 3, after a hour of playing this message occurred, Close program to prevent memory loss. So obviously I… Ignored it. It was the first time that happened, so after playing a few more minutes and comp. hanged, had to restart manually. I thought maybe the game needed more memory, I used the method to close the game when the msg appeared, and start it again…..but my system started to get slower and slower until I could not even open Mozilla without the comp. hanging. Right now after restarting, and installing something my 4GB ram is filled upto 2.85 GB, without anything significant running. TOP 2 memory apps in Resource monitor are Svchost.exe(159 Mb) and firefox(125 Mb), and physical memory is filled upto 2.86 Gb. Can some-one help?
You haven't disabled the paging file have you? That is a common cause of a system crash, especially during gaming. Please check that your paging file to see that it is set to "System managed size". 1) Click on Start / Control Panel / System and Maintenance / System. 2) In the left pane, click Advanced system settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password, type the password. 3) On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings. 4) Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory select "System managed size" and apply, then reboot. Cheers, Lee

It was already at "System managed size"". Check the attached files.
Sometimes virtual memory is not being used at all with some games, causing them to crash. It was a common Vista problem but maybe with W7 too (?).
I recently had Mass effect 3 installed (great game) on W7 with 4GB of RAM but never had a problem with the The resource exhaustion manager displaying "Close program to prevent memory loss".

Low memory problems can occur when a program does not free up memory that it no longer needs. This problem is called memory overuse or a memory leak.

To repair a memory leak, you need to check for updates for the program or contact the publisher of the software.

To determine which program is using the most memory, follow these steps:

1) Open Task Manager by right-clicking the taskbar and then clicking Task Manager.

2) Click the Processes tab.

3) To sort programs by memory usage, click Memory (Private Working Set).

You can also check for program errors and troubleshooting information using Event Viewer:

1) Open Event Viewer by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Event Viewer. If you are prompted for an administrator password, type the password.

2) In the left pane, click Applications and Services Logs to view error events. To see a description of the problem, double-click the event. To see if troubleshooting information is available, look for a link to online Help.

Cheers,
Lee
