I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem. I use nero 10 multimedia suite on an hp pavillion dv6000, i've had the laptop for close to 9 yrs and nero has always been a great burning tool, but lately whenever i try to burn a dvd, no matter what it is or how many seperate scenes are in my compilation, the very end of the movie, or last few scenes of a compilation gets distorted and wont play. Then the movie gets stuck, pixilated then finally cuts off and i have to restart the entire movie over again. It always happens at the end, i get no errors and the dvd burns, but i still get that anyone out there know why this seems to happen, ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance from a frustrated movie maker.
Nero 10 Issue
9 min read
Hi J SmoothNYC,
Sorry to hear of the problems with burning the DVD's (and welcome to the WTT forum, by the way!)
1 The first thing to check is to see if you are using a FAT 32 or NTFS.(FAT32 has a file size limit of 4Gig (actually 1 byte under!) so if you are using the full capacity of the DVD you could be running up against the 4Gb file size limit towards the end of the burn.( if your file size is around that limit)
2 Next is to run chkdsk with the r switch ( chkdsk /r) Note the space, it needs to be there,( at the warning screen press Y press enter and type
exit
press enter and then reboot NOTE for this and the sfc you will need to run them from a command prompt with elevated privileges (right click and select Run as Admin)
3 Next run sfc /scannow
4 Reboot and then see if the problem has been fixed.
5 If still no joy then uninstall Nero and after a reboot reinstall it
Let us know how you get on

Thanks for the swift response paws, i did the chkdsk/r and rebooted and i got "the volume is clean", so now trying to do the sfc, but when i run as admin, the window appears then quickly disappears so i can't do the sfc scan. And i apparently am running NTFS.
Hi, Ok all understood,
I recommend you persevere in trying to get sfc to run
its a command prompt you need with elevated privileges…. here's a step by step for 7:
Note make sure you are logged on to an Admin level account
1 Click on Start
2 Click on All Programs
3 Click on Accessories
Right click on Run as admin
you should now be at a Black DOS type window, if so type at the flashing cursor:
sfc /scannow
and press Enter
Note the space twixt c and / it needs to be there:
If this doesn't do the trick for you then try uninstalling Nero and then rebooting and reinstalling it

thanx again for your help, i got the sfc scan to run and the message i got was: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". Is that the result i'm looking for, if so i will try another burn and see what happens.
Yes that is good news, it means that all protected Windows System files are undamaged and in their correct location with none missing….
Yes try the Nero again, if still no joy then its the uninstall Nero/reboot. install Nero again I'm afraid.
Let us know how you get on.

PS don't forget the reboot….. it has no chance of working at all without it!
Sorry for the lack of response, right after paws' last reply, sometime later the inverter board went out on me, so now i'm on a new laptop someone was kind enough to give me (lenovo T61), SO NOW I WILL HAVE TO reinstall nero 10 on this one and see what happens lol. Bad luck keeps finding me, now that i have another laptop, my external crashed (to the floor lol) and the mini usb port pops off, so now i have to find a way to salvage the data. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Hi J SmoothNYC, Good luck with the install of Nero on your new laptop…fingers crossed that all will go well.
Sorry to hear of the problem with the external hard drive.
Soldering back into place the mini USB port seems on the face of it to be a simple process, however for reasons that I can't put my finger on, our own experience at achieving this (even in a well equipped workshop) has not been great… our success rate to date has I'm afraid to say been quite poor in re-establish the patency of the port.
In fact we have now, as a matter of policy, withdrawn from offering this repair to our customers….. the expense involved (time labour etc) and our frankly poor results to date coupled with the relatively low cost of replacing the the complete unit have made us rethink the economics of offering this particular service.
If you have data on the drive that you need to capture (and there is no alternative port available (no firewire for example) then its maybe worth considering disassembling the external drive casing and removing the hard drive and connecting it to a caddy or docking station and pulling off the data that way.
Post back if you need detailed notes on how to do that.

Paws, you are a giant among men i truly thank you for the swift responses and help you've given me . I'm in the process as we speak of trying to get the external problem solved, but NATURALLY now there's another issue. the laptop i was given, had windows 7 "enterprise" and now it seems that the copy of windows was bogus and now it's not working, If my other laptop was working it would be easy to connect to it and get the product key from that one as my lenovo product key is invalid now. I'm sorry to keep popping up with problem after problem, but it seems that my technology is staging a true revolt on me lol.
Hi J Smooth NYC, It sure sounds like you are having a tough time with your equipment.
If you have a bogus copy of Win 7 on your machine then its probably incomplete or contains all sort of stuff( that Microsoft never intended to be there.) so maybe its a blessing that it not working!
Here's some thoughts for you as a way forward:
1 Download a Live distro of Linux (Puppy Linux is good and a relatively small download around 100Mb or so maybe more for the later versions, burn the .iso to a CD and boot from it (be sure to burn the .iso as an "image", a straight copy won't work…post back if you need a detailed steer on this)
Puppy will run happily within RAM and not write anything to your hard drive (unless you ask it to…) Puppy is not the same as Windows but is easy to use, just remember only one click (no double clicking) and it will run totally independent of Windows….( also it has the great advantage of being free… )
2 Make sure your Ethernet cable (for your internet) is plugged in before booting into Linux Puppy…… sometimes it can be tricky for Puppy to find the right drivers to use your Wireless network adapter card, so that's why we recommend using an Ethernet wire so Puppy can connect easily……..
3 You may find that Puppy is all your need , if so you can stick with it, but otherwise its a good way of testing out a lot of your hardware……. if Puppy will run Ok then its tested everything apart from your hard drive……… but if you prefer to buy a legit copy of Win 7 with its Certificate of Authenticity….COA (so you can use Windows on the laptop legally and with everything "above board" then there are many outlets offering Win 7 at quite reduced prices…..
I have just installed a Win 7 operating system on a customer's computer and found a legitimate copy together with COA from a reputable seller on a well known International online auction site for around (GBP) £40……. if you are in USA then its about USD ( $60) or so…….. However I have found that software and components are generally a lot cheaper in USA than in UK so you may be able to get it at a lower price.
Hope these thoughts help and thank you for your kind words…much appreciated.

Never a problem to say thanx for someone's help, i truly appreciate it. I ALMOST had a solution for the external, had a friend of mine bring a SATA cable and we tried to pull the data off of the drive but for some reason it wouldn't recognize and open the drive. Is there a certain cable to be used? certain specs i mean the external i have is a Western Digital MyBook 1TB. Luckily it does have a SATA port, so we THOUGHT we had the problem solved lol.
Hi J SmoothNYC,
1 In the workshop, if we need to pull data off say, for example, an external hard drive when the standard USB port has broken (and we cant fix it!) then we look for other ports on the external hard drive to see if they are present, firewire, esata, etc.
2 To use a firewire or esata port you need the correct cable and the correct port on the machine to which you are going to pull off the data…i.e. the computer must have a corresponding firewire or esata port….(adaptors are available, but at a price!)
3 A cheaper and quick solution is to remove the hard drive from the external housing (taking all the usual personal safety and anti static –ESD precautions) and connect it to a desktop computer using an ordinary sata cable, and a spare power connector from the computer's PSU…… the eternal hard drive should then how up in "my computer" "computer" or "This PC" depending n the version of Windows installed on the desktop computer.
There are other ways of getting the data off, but if you haven't got the rightcable/ports to be able to use 1 and 2 above then just try 3 above.
All these methods will not work, if the hard drive has suffered electro mechanical failure…..i.e if it's defective in some way as a result of dropping or shock or is just worn out etc., ( if it wont spin up… then its a "dead duck" unless you pay for a specialist data recovery firm to extract the data for you (expensive)

Thanx again for the alternatives, i guess what i really need to know is how do i determine the correct type of wire to get, luckily the drive did have the port for the sata cable, and the connections were all there, we were trying to do it through the usb which was present also. When we hooked everything up the lights on the adapter cable lit up to show the drive was indeed active, but for some reason it just wouldn't show up as recognized. I'm trying to be as detailed as i can so you can further assist me, i'm still using the lenovo t61 thinkpad and the WD 1TB MyBook, so i figure maybe i need a specific kind of wire and we just had the wrong one. Since i'm a novice at this, i may need more help than usual lol…i admit it I truly appreciate your patience and level of being detailed in trying to help me out.
No problem J SmoothNYC,
its a pleasure to help.
How many ports does your Western Digital My Book have?
Normally there is just a single USB port and the usual USB cable is connected to this USB port and then into your computer .
You mention a SATA port …are you saying that your external hard drive has an eSATA port?
If in any doubt just take a photo of the ports that are visible on the external hard drives case and upload it here so I can see exactly what you have.
