Just wondering if people have any ideas about what the best choices may be, I've been looking, and have 2 shortlisted, the other day I thought the more expensive one was all singing all dancing, and was far better than the other one, but looking again tonight I am struggling to separate them, the more expensive one is a bit bigger, has 6 ink's, and uses less power, the cheaper one is a 5 ink machine, but other than that, I can't see if one surpasses the other, and my brain has gone into meltdown lol.

Going by model numbers the cheaper one would appear to be the newest one out, but I am stumped, the 2 models are:-

Canon PIXMA iP7250

Canon PIXMA MG7150

I'm not a fan of Canon, my first printer was a Canon, and the ink either dried up, or evaporated depending how long since I last used it, as a result ink cost was horrendous, and I have not touched them since, I've stuck with Epson ones since then, but my current one has stopped printing red, the head is messed up, and the only thing left is to get messy, and given it's age, and my need to scan, and these ones seem to be getting good reviews, I figure it's about time for an upgrade.

I am after one that prints onto disks directly, scan, and print both sides of paper without having to do a jig swapping the paper around, and printing speed would be a big benefit as well, and wireless printing is good as well, it means 1 less cable, my usual rule of thumb is the price of ink, basically the running cost, but there is not much difference between these ones, so anyone know these models and can say which is the better ?

I'm quite happy to look at any other suggestions, but I do want the features I mentioned at a minimum, but the ideal printer is one that can do what I need, and be the cheapest for the ink, any thought's ?

obvious difference is one's a printer only and other is a printer/scanner/copier.

can't see if they print both sides of a page, but as for running costs i'd expect them to be about the same seeing how they both use individual ink cartridges.

no experience with printers myself for years so can't offer any recommendations or say which is best.

found where it says they do both print on 2 sides of a page, so i think they both meet your requirements but the dearer one offers you more options with it's built in scanner/copier.

I said I was in meltdown mode lol, how on earth did I miss that :smack:

And yes the copying etc. is required as well, my scanner is not supported by the newer OS's, so figured I may as well get an AIO job, less boxes and all that, I also like the idea of the paper intake being enclosed, less risk of dirt and any other debris falling into the printer over the years, which can't be good for it, and may well have contributed to it's current state.

I will go back to comparing other makes\models and see if I can spot anything cheaper or better, but anyone knowing of an all singing all dancing printer with good ink prices, it would be great.

Thanks for pointing out my obvious oversight and reply terry lol.

Another consideration, from a lifetime cost standpoint, is the cost of printer cartridges.

The printer business model is to sell the printer cheaply and to recoup the cost and profit through the cartridges.

Some printer cartridges can be easily refiled with kits that result in pennies per refil rather than $10-$20.

Yep always look at the ink cost, as you say a cheap printer is no bargain if ink is dear, anyway got one for my Xmas prezzie, ended up with an Epson XP-700 after speaking to an Epson rep, it's new tech which does not heat the ink, so keep it on permanently, it goes to sleep mode after x time, and will auto wake on the next command, thus eliminating the cleaning cycle, and saving a lot of ink, as it's that cycle that eats it up, thanks for the thought.
