Canon Bjc-2100 Printer.

My Canon BJC-2100 c**p printer prints color OK, but now only a grey color for black, even at the slowest paper rate. Have cleaned the cartridge carrier with water, alcohol and acetone with no effect. Maybe try vodka? Re-installing the program did nothing to help. Any ideas before I junk it? And any recommendations for a GOOD inexpensive printer which will not be required to print pictures and doesn't cost a fortune for replacement cartridges?
The printer is 3years old, perhaps I've been living on borrowed time?
