So i downloaded a zip file, and dragged the contents onto my desktop (and exe).
For whatever reason, Norton did't like the file and somehow jacked up the file. So i deleted the zip file, and then tried to delete the icon my desktop, but every time i tried to do so i got this message:

The file was "ADVENTURES OF JERRY THE SLIME" and it won't go away now.
This file was not a virus (it was a game), i have no idea why Norton freaked out.
first thing to try is to right click on your desktop and hit refresh.
with any luck that should get rid of them, if it doesn't then i'm afraid you might be looking at editing your registry.
please supply the version of windows your using in next reply.
How are you trying to delete it? It "sounds" like you are opening it, thus it cannot be found. Did you try to drag that desktop item to the Recycle Bin?
I would run a supplemental scan with Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware (MBAM) just be sure all is safe.
It should be noted that Desktop items load during boot (and one reason to keep Desktop items to a minimum). So my "guess" is Norton did not like a zip file on the desktop.

How do you know for sure? Even legitimate sites and programs can be hacked and modified by badguys. So it is imperative to scan all downloads, even from known sources.
While I agree editing the Registry may be the solution, if a refresh, or dragging to the Recycle Bin does not help, I might suggest you boot into Safe Mode and see if you can delete it. If no luck, I would try MoveOnBoot. It will let you tag the file to be deleted early-on during the next boot cycle, before Windows or any application can set hooks in it. You will probably need to navigate to your Desktop folder, however, to tag it. The Desktop folder is typically found under C:\Users\yourusername\Desktop.
