Can anyone help????? when i try to unsubscribe to unsolicited emails, i get an error window that reads: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or,
if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." what is this, why did it appear all of the sudden, and how do i correct this problem. it appears with every email i get,
including when i get a tweet in my email and want to reply to it. and what Default Programs control panel?
That sounds like it doesn't know what to use to read them, should be a simple fix, but to start with where are you trying to do this from ?
Are you using web mail, or have you got live mail installed on your PC ?
Default programs should be an entry under the Start button, it is in win 7 anyway, can't recall other OS's off the top of my head, but once you can answer the questions we can guide with further help.
8210GUY,
I have Windows Live Mail installed………..I also found the Default Programs in the start menu……now what???? Thanks for your help on this!!!!!!!!!!!!
8210GUY,
I also cannot open any links sent with any emails i receive. I get this same error message. Could I have lost a program associated with Live Mail?
By the way, I tried uninstalling Windows Live Mail and reinstalling it , but to no evail…………….
Right, click the Default Programs button under Start, then click the top link that says Set Your Default Programs, once loaded scroll (if needed) down the list, and select Windows Live Mail, then with that highlighted click on Set This Program As Default, hopefully that should set things right again, lets see what this does for you then we can see whats left to do after if needed, with luck this should be enough.
P.S. something tells me it may be a problem with a program not at all associated with Live Mail.
After opening Live Mail, i get this same error massage when i click the "help" icon.
Does that sound logical????
Not sure whats going on then, can you upload a screenshot of the error here ?
To do this press the Print Screen button when the error is showing, you should find this button near and\or above the Delete key, next open Paint, then click Edit - Paste, the image will then be visible, next select File - Save As, select to save as a .jpg, then you can upload that with your next post.
The associations do sound messed up, but I would need to know the specific file type that is giving this error, to find this right click on the problem item, and select Properties, near the top it should list the file type, also if you can mention what you know or believe this problem file is, then I can get a clearer picture (hopefully lol) of whats going on.
8210GUY,
Got the problem fixed. Called my brother who is somewhat of a computer whiz(who knew) and after explaining the problem, he traced it to a missing program inside Windows Live Mail that i apparently deleted doing a cleanup of my PC. After installing a copy of the program he sent me, things are back to normal……so far that is. He says that i should have no more problems, as long as i don't mess with things…again.
Thank you for your assistance in getting my system going. My brother says the suggestions you mentioned helped him figure out where to look to find the problem.
I very much appreciate your help with all this……Take care & God bless.
