Hi Nick, Welcome to the WTT forums
Sorry to hear of the problem with your laptop.
Have you tried booting into safe mode?
tap F8 once per second IMMEDIATELY after pushing the power on switch until you arrive at safe mode
Select "repair my computer"

When i do that, it sends me to 'advanced boot options' and it doesn't appear to have the repair your computer option. And also I have tried disabling the auto restart and when it crashes it says it is an 'unmountable boot volume' error.
I am having the same issue with my toshiba L775-7105 It tries to start up and gets to the toshiba logo and then just has a blank screen. is there anything that i can do here. Someone told me by taking the keyboard off and then taking out all of the cards then unscrewing the board and hitting this booter button will reset it and it will work fine but im a little skeptical on taking everything apart. What should i try before that?
Hi Nick,
This is not looking good…
However there are some steps you can take:
1 Try "last known good configuration"
let us know if this helps
2 Can you get to a command prompt either in safe mode or by booting from your Microsoft Windows Repair or installation disc?
if so try the following command
chkdsk /r
note the space twixt k and / it needs to be there
If still no joy then its looking like a hard drive failure is possible
Did you make a system image when your computer was running fast and sweet and with no problems?
if your hard drive is failing or has failed then I hope your back up is 100% up to date, reproducible, and includes everything on your computer that is important to you…stuff you don't want to lose.. and with an extra copy kept safe offsite on removable media…..?
To check the hard drive you will need access to a good working computer to create the hard drive manufacturers test utility bootable disc.
see here for details:
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Burn the CD ( bootable) boot up your computer from it and run first the short test and if this OK then the long test…..
Let us know how things go.
If your disc checking utility indicates errors, then its likely you will need to buy and fit a new harddrive, reload Windows and all your applications (Word etc…) and then copy across all your important stuff from your back up files kept on removable media etc.

@aliplett
Hi aliplett and welcome to the WTT forums, Sorry to hear of the problems with your Toshiba.
As we are dealing with Nick's problems in this topic it would be very helpful if your could open a new topic for the problems with your computer…this is the best and quickest way for you to receive assistance.
Please give as much information as possible in your post. Don't dismantle your computer unless you are experienced in doing this.and know all the protections you should use…they are very easy to damage!
