Hello Guys, I got this message on the screen recently, and i tried safe mode but it did not help cause again it went to blue screen. I tried to boot from CD-ROM drive, but the computer is not reading from CD-ROM drive. Please help me with the problem. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated Thanks -Balaji
Hi bbirali,

We need to know what the message or error code actually was and what brand and model your computer is.

If your PC is auto restarting when you get to the blue screen, you need to disable auto-restart.

Choose, disable automatic restart on system failure. To do so, you might need to choose "normal" mode from this menu and immediately after pressing enter start tapping F8. If you see another prompt asking you which OS you want to start (Windows XP…) just choose that and immediately after pressing enter start tapping F8. Now, you will have another advanced startup menu similar to the above, and choose disable automatic restart on system failure.

With that, it should stop, and show you why it isn't starting on a blue screen. Report that information back to us without all the generic stuff about disabling your anti-virus, removing any newly installed hardware, etc.

If it still does not stop so that you can see that error message and continues to reboot, then repeat the steps above but choose safe mode on the first menu, then follow the rest of the instructions choosing disable automatic restart on system failure on the 2nd or 3rd menu.

Cheers Lee

PS Edit:
If you are getting no message but just a blue screen and cannot boot to CD-ROM drive when you boot, start tapping your delete button so you can enter the Bios. Once there you need to set the boot order so that your CD-ROM drive is first boot and the Hard Drive is second boot. Use you arrow keys to navigate in your bios.

I am not completely sure but these steps maybe helpful for you to fix this issue. Start the computer, load the Recovery Console, and then run Chkdsk /r. To access the recovery console: Start the computer with the Windows XP CD in the CD/DVD drive, and then when prompted press any key to boot from CD. On the Welcome to setup screen, press the R key on your keyboard to repair the Windows XP installation using Recovery Console. On the next screen, press the number of the Windows installation for which you know the administrator password. After selecting the appropriate Windows installation, type the administrator password when prompted. Reboot when you are done, and let the system load windows normally.
Hi Guys, Sorry for the late reply, but i could not load the xp operating system from the CD at all, the saying that fail to load from CD, press F1 to retry and F2 to goto system settings. BTW: it is getting stuck when loading MUP.sys during safe mode … -Balaji
Try running chkdsk from the Recovery Console as follows:

You are going to have to get into BIOS Setup on your computer to set the CD/DVD drive as the first bootable device, so you can then boot your XP CD, unless it provides the ability to press a Fn key at boot time to bring up the boot selection menu. If it does, use that.

How you do this varies with each manufacturer. Normally you press F1, F2, F10 or Del when you see the manufacturers logo. Often there is a clue somewhere on the screen when you boot normally telling you what key to press. Some computers (most newer ones) have a key you can press (often F12) to bring up the Boot Menu from where you can select the CD/DVD drive to boot from.

If you don't have an XP CD, download and run ARCDC by Artellos. It will download the required files from the Microsoft Web site and create a .iso file. It will also offer to burn the iso image to a CD for you. If you don't do it then, there is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will do it at a later time. If you're unsure how to do this, you can follow the tutorial here: How to Burn an ISO File. This can be done from any computer.

Boot the CD and at the first opportunity, enter R to start the Recovery Console.

Next, choose which XP installation you want to login to. Normally this will be 1.
Lastly you will be asked for the Administrator password. Just press the Enter key as the Administrator does not have a password (unless you gave it one, then you would enter it).

From the command prompt, enter: chkdsk /r
Allow it to complete undisturbed. It can take an hour or more depending on the size of the hard drive.

Remove the CD, type exit and the computer will reboot. Hopefully that will have fixed the problem (corrupted file system).

It's also possible your hard drive is dead and you will need to replace it then reload XP. I just ran into this with a HP dv9500 laptop I picked up. I ordered the recovery DVD for Vista Home Premium 32 bit from HP for $15, no shipping.

Is the XP install CD you have one from HP, did you buy it or did you burn it yourself? If you burned it yourself, and still have the source you may want to try burning it again using ImgBurn (see above for info) at 4X.
