Hi i am having an issue with windows that is unable to recognize my usb ports. I have windows 7. I went through a few simple diagnoses to determine the problem. First i tried the usb drives in another computer, they work fine. Next i opened the computer that had the issue and checked to see if the usb ports where plugged in properly to the motherboard. Lastly i ran repair recovery console. The problem still isn't fixed. When i go the disk manager, and look under programs, there is a yellow exclamation mark. It says "unknown device" so clearly there is a problem here. I click on properties and normally where its supposed to say "this device is working properly" it says "error code 43, windows 7 is unable to recognize this device" Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I don't believe its a hardware issue, i think it has something to do with a corrupted driver file or something. Anyways do you know of a website that tests your computer for hardware or software driver failures. The site i know of is pcpitstop, that ready test but it only works on xp. I need a windows 7 test to fully test everything to find out whats wrong here.
Hi Jeff, In Device Manager, I read that you did see one "unknown Device" with Yellow alert. Way down below that in the same list, are there any USB Devices listed. If so, please let us know. If not, go to your machine's manufacturer website to download USB Controller Driver for Windows 7 (32 or 64)
No there isn't and this computer was built by me. What manufacturer website would i use in that case? You mean the manufacturer of my motherboard?
ok, ill check that out. One more question and this is kind of off topic but i know you guys have access to alot of programs that you use for cleaning computer's or offering tech help. Do you have a directory or a library any where of these links or programs that you use. I would like to dl them and stick them in a folder cause i use them all the time.
Most Windows features can be repaired with Windows and MS native tools. When it comes to need for other utilities, it might be a good idea to inquire on a case-by-case basis. I will say that we do not recommend any "optimize" type utilities, nor do we recommend automated registry cleaners.
it is not unknown for usb ports to stop working on a motherboard, and i must admit it does sound to me like yours have gone bad, if they have the only solution is to replace the motherboard or buy a pci/pci-e usb card.
