hi!
well… my problems is that, some time ago, no, a long time ago my xp was recognizing everything, any usb was recognized and was functioning normally, but now it isn't anymore, i wasn't using this pc, but there were lots of people using it, now, any dispositive i get on usb show a message "usb dispositive wasn't recognized", it shows that it doesn't have a driver that allows windows to recognize it, but xp, doesn't need any other drives right???
well, i already tried a million thing, unistalled, reinstalled all windows's drives, unchecked the safe energy mode, for usb, when the pc isn't usning it, i've already done everythiing i new, but the error keeps showing, i don't have any restauration point, so i can't restore to a previous point where it was working…
ANY suggestion will be greatly apreciated! i'm desesperated!
thanks!
Hi,
Sorry to hear of the problem with your USB
If lots of people have been using your machine, unsupervised and you have not protected it with custom software it is likely that you may have corrupted system files.
There are a number of steps that you can take.
1 Run Microsoft System File Checker to replace any corrupt/missing protected system files
2 Uninstall all your USB components, reboot and let windows find the new drivers and reinstall USB support
if this does not help then you may have to:
3 Reinstall Windows
However before you do this, try this method that we use in the workshop (works 6 times oiut of 10)
1 Shut down your computer in the usual way, unplug any mains powered peripherals.
2 If a laptop, remove battery and make sure mains power is NOT connected
3 Remove power cable from wall receptacle (IMPORTANT The computer must have no physical contact with a mains or battery power supply even if it is switched off)
4 Ensure any UPS (if used) is physically disconnected
5 Remove any phone, network, cable or DSL connections from your computer.
Once you are satisfied that there is no chance of any power getting to your computer,
6 Wait for 35 minutes (Not a minute less! … but longer is OK)
7 Now plug in all your peripherals EXCEPT your USB ones
8 Switch on the power/insert battery etc
9 Boot your computer and wait until hard drive light stops flickering constantly (usually about 2 to 3 minutes , but could be longer)
Now install one USB device to a USB port (if a desktop use a back port)
make sure the device is put directly into the Computer's USB port NOT into a hub.
I can't give you any guarantees but it works more often than not and is a lot quicker than the other methods.
