Hey, i've been having some trouble with my graphics for a long time on and off, the screen flickers and then the program/game im in gets all spazzed out by the graphics, a reboot of the game usually resolves, either temporary or slightly longer term. I've re-installed the GFX drivers like 40 times and hasnt stopped happening, also updated directX and java - any other possible resolutions plz ppl? Also the 2 back USB drives on my PC seem to have become unresponsive and ive hadf to move my peripherals to alternate ports. I'm checking for further virus's in malware section of forum also. The fans are also set to high in my PC, but GFX card still gets pretty dayam boiling Windows XP SP3 Asus p5n-t deluxe motherboard GeForce 260x GTX graphics card Antec 900 gaming case 2gig ram can't think o anything else atm thx for any input ppl
To begin it is unwise to try and resolve hardware issues while under instruction of the pro's, it could make they're job much harder, so wait until you get the all clear from them before doing more. But my initial thought to you're video issue is it's overheating from what you have said, so I would say to re-seat the heatsink on it, BUT, given the card is probably quite new I would not do this without further investigation, it could void you're warranty if applicable, so we need more detailed info first, so my best advice currently is wait until the pro's give you the all clear, then come back here with the temp's you're card is reaching, also tell us the make\model of you're PSU, and if you have a tester or meter to use on it, then we can look deeper.
yea kk thx, well am, hopefully zipping through with the pro's n clearing the annoying multiple trojans in my system (lol :|) you mentioned re-sealing the heat sink - ive looked for the chip previously to but cannot find it. (A friend did it long ago but cant remember if that was this PC or my last one) - it is a chip right? and i dont have his lubricant for it now either as for warranty, PC was custom built about 2 years ago now by a friend and PSU - i cant access the specs of it inside the box or seem to locate wth it is :x thx for reply
Sorry for a slow reply, been one of those days, I would be more interested in the PSU at this stage, and\or the fan in the card, I would not expect a card of this spec that new to have problems such as this, it doesn't mean it can't be the heatsink, but I would be looking at the other options before messing with the card directly, so can you tell us the PSU make\model and if you have access to testers\meters ?
erm wish i could, sorry been off a lot myself :x i dont have any details on the PSU whatsoever and no equipment, so unless im able to acquire this knowledge whilst somehow on the PC, i dont know. i used some Mx-2 artic cooling on the CPU and that seems to have eased up, as of yet no troubles PS: am back for more pro help ffs :|
Well this is one of those times where you can't do more without further hardware, to quote the PSU you would have to pull the mains (for safety), then remove the side of the case and read it directly from the label, then put the side back etc, also tell us what leads are used for the graphics card, if it's the 4\6 pin leads specifically for cards thats fine, but if using a molex connector\adaptor then I would like to know exactly what is connected to each lead. With any luck the new paste may of actually been the cure, but I am surprised a card as new as that would require this that soon, so the best thing I can say for now is to just monitor the situation, if it stays behaved then it's probably OK, but if it starts messing about again, then you will need to ask around for a meter or tester, or take it for a health check, I really hate suggesting such things, but without being able to do the checks to prove the components in turn, we are stuffed, so for now fingers crossed it behaves, good luck.
