Hi, My Computer was running slow annd i posted and was helped by the forum thats deals with Virus , Trojans and Malware!
They noticed during the scans that Something wasn't Correct and tracked it down to the fact that the Battey in the Motherboard had been dead for over a year in the past . After we finished the scans they recomended I post on this Forum for help checking the BIOS as it could have been affected by the Battery being dead for so long! The Computer still runs slow and hangs ocassinally. My last Hellpers Suggestion is below . Any help would be appreciated! Thank You!

When you post there, you may wish to let them know we saw legitimate files that were being created/modified with future dates in your logs. Please tell them that the battery on the motherboard was dead for some time before it was replaced and that you would like assistance to ensure the BIOS is configured properly.

There really isn't much to configure in BIOS other than setting the correct date and time.
About the only other thing I can think of is to set the Boot Priority (order) so your CD/DVD drive is first then the Floppy drive (if you have one) and finally the hard drive.
What I usually do when this happens is press the key that loads Default settings, save and exit then go back into BIOS Setup and make any changes I want.
It's really hard to say what else can be changed and if it should be or not without sitting in front of the computer. Is the CPU speed configurable (can it be changed / over clocked)? Can the memory timing/voltages be changed? Is DMA mode active (almost always is). If you have some specific questions I or one of the other techs here can try to help. If so, please post back with the type and version of BIOS you have, Phoenix, AMI, Award, etc.

Date and Times are changed when replacing battery, When going to choose the factory defaults settings it will load them as it was shipped, but you still must set the time and dates tho.
And …
disable the 'logo' at boot
disable 'floppy drive' if none exists
enable 'quick boot' if the option is there
Let everything else do it's thing
Cheers,

The changing of the boot order, disabling of floppy, logos, etc. will only affect the boot times and nothing to do with the computer running slowly once it has booted. If you are still running, then you have something else wrong - perhaps a driver, or maybe RAM.
So I agree with Ztruker. Once the BIOS is reset, all you should have to do is check/reset data and time then Save and Exit to boot normally. That should set the all your timing settings to "auto" which means the bus, RAM, and CPU should then run at their normal, default speeds.
You say the computer still runs slow - when you right click on My Computer, is the CPU speed and RAM amount as expected? As far as hanging - do you have to reboot, or does it free itself? Is there a pattern to the hanging? Is the interior free of heat trapping dust?
