Hi all at whatthetech,
I have been researching parts for a computer and before I buy them and build the system, I wanted to get a second opinion or two about the system, i.e. any flaws, muff ups etc
Any help is appreciated, cheers
4Gb Triple DDR3 1333 Memory A-RAM (2 x 2Gb)
Palit GF GTX470 1280Mb DDR5
Asus Rampage III Extreme MB
2Tb 2000Gb WD SATA2 HDD
Intel Core i7 930 Nehalem CPU
LG CH10LS20 Blu RAY Combo
Acer G245H 24" 5ms
SteelSeries 5H V2 Headset
Antec CP-1000W 1000W for P183
Antec Twelve Hundred FULL
What do you intend to use it for mainly? And regardless of what that might be, a 1000w PSU is a total waste of money unless you want to run your car with it when your PC is not being used. Motherboards draw 12w, 5w and 3.5w at various rates of consumption (load) of course, but even an 800w PSU would be overkill for 99% of PC's. Cheers, Lee
Ok, so I will be using these programs: Office 2007 – Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access Adobe Premier Pro CS5 Diablo III (if it ever comes out) Media player classic – 1080p movies iTunes ArcGIS And in general Internet – lots Video/Music Playback – lots Light Office Apps – yes Heavy Office Apps – yes Hardware Intensive games – occasionally Light/Medium Gaming – yes Video Editing – yes Photo Editing – yes Home Theatre PC – yes Overclocking – will give it a go on my old machine first Thanks for the advise on the PSU, I had wondered if 1000W was overkill…
If you looked at the price range of about half the cost of the items you mentioned (the RAM choice is good though), your needs would be well met. A good mid-range motherboard and the best quality PSU you can afford would be my top priorities. Everything else is regularly being upgraded. Seasonic, Corsair and Antec Neo's, or their Signature series are all excellent.PSU's (Seasonic make both the other 2 brands).and 500w to 650w (SLI only) would be plenty of power and future proofing for just about anything. Power requirements for most PC Hardware components have been going down (quality and performance up) for the last 15yrs., not vis-a-vis. Cheers, Lee
