anybody want to give me ideas? i forgot to put that i am buying a good psu and i will upgrade it to i7 around christmas. will anyone help me? is it a good gpu? good mobo? good brands?
if your upgrading as soon as christmas to an i7 and a better power supply, i think i'd wait until then before buying anything because you can put the money it would cost you now for the psu, cpu and heatsink etc as well as what you can save up in between now and then towards better parts to go with the i7. never even heard of half the parts manufacturers you've listed.. case, ram etc. asus.. good make, not sure i think much of that video card tho, but like you said budget is the limiting factor at moment. western digital.. good make. if you need to buy now tho and your limited to that budget i don't really see much wrong with the system, no power house but more than up for the job of surfing the web and playing some games.. and much better than the dell 2400 you have now.

i'm buying the psu now. i found out that the i7 will be a present instead of me buying :D and the $50 gpu is temporary. i might just go ahead and get a nvidia now too.
i have always went with wd because seagate clunks out on me everytime. plus it is a fricken fast hdd.
i have decided on a coolmaster case.
my main question, is the mobo good? i saw only good reviews, but i am hoping it is a good one.
not exactly sure which version of asus p8p67 motherboard your looking at but yes they are good motherboards, but if you can stretch your budget to a z68 chipset i think i'd recommend that instead. ie. asus p8z68 motherboard, if you can't then the p8p67 is a great choice of motherboard.

coolermaster make great cases too, i have one. :D

quick note:- make sure the i7 they buy is a socket 1155 one and not an older 1366 type.. :-
new i7's :- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist….&subid=1859

Your parts selection is very impressive, but before you swipe the plastic you should have a good sit down and ask yourself what are the intended uses for this PC? Not what you might use it for, but what you are most likely to use it for.

General Gaming?
Gaming in a big way at high resolutions with all setting on max on a very large monitor?
Single or twin video cards?
Overclocking CPU and Video Card?
Video Editing?
Hi quality sound editing and playback?
AMD or Intel and based on what?

The answer to all these questions should be at the top of your mind before deciding on anything, especially if you are on a budget. Rule out paying for bragging rights, as with computers they are very short lived indeed.

I''ll give you a couple of examples as me deciding and buying:
Video editing or serious multi-tasking? No never, so I do not need a CPU with more than X2 cores as I will never see or use the benefits of more that X2 CPU cores. Why should I pay for benefits I'll never see?

1) AMD or Intel? Ok I'm on a budget too, so AMD is a no-brainer as far as cost and performance goes and the CPU I buy now will also fit at least 3 generations of motherboard sockets, Intel will only ever fit one. Their CPU's are way over-priced and their i7 is about to be "Bulldozed" by AMD.

Selection: AMD Athlon II X2 260 Socket AM3 2060 (3.2GHz) 45nm. ($50-$70)
Will fit Socket AM2+, AM3, AM3+ motherboards. An AMD AM3+ board will also fit AMD's soon to be released "Bulldozer" range of CPU's (X2 up to X16 core and only 28nm to 32nm).

So wait a bit if you have firmly decided on going Intel as you'll see some mind-blowing discounts on their i5 and i7 CPU's soon.

Single or twin Video Cards?
With the performance of the current (and future) range of cards available, and my aversion to "noisy" PC's, I'll never use or need X2 cards. So my PSU choice would be is a quality 500w - 650w (80+ bronze or gold standard). Corsair or Antec which will cope with any single video card I chose as I like gaming. (A quality 350w-450w without gaming).

Motherboard?
Well I like the idea of USB3 and I'd like Military build quality in the capacitors (Japanese) and a super-fast chipset and of course, hypertheading for ram, but I can do without an extra Video Card slot or any more than 4 RAM slots.
Brand? MSI or ASUS is also a no-brainer, so I'll go for an Asus M4A87TD/USB3 ($70 - $90). Not the "EVO" model with twin card slots.

Get the picture?

Cheers,
Lee
