OK then the ending result now is the lack of memory the system has. I believe once you increase the memory total most of the issues will then correct themselves.

I am planning to increase the RAM to at least 1Gb but perhaps to 2GB Also I will remove 8Gb of Outlook BAK files and 12Gb of iTunes files, but would additionally like to remove the 3.8Gb of Guest account files. This should resolve the memory issues for good. Are you able advise any further on how I may be able to remove the Guest account. rgds

It's not a good idea to attempt to remove/delete Guest Account in Windows XP Home or Pro

You can, however, go into use the log-off / switch users function to login as Guest.
From there you can have a look at My Documents, My Pictures, etc. to remove what clutter you may wish to have gone.

Don't even think about worrying about it. Your follow-up is excellent. There are plenty of times when necessary research for a Thread solution gets interrupted by real life responsibilities for me, to the extent that I feel lucky to reply on the same day. Have now removed 12Gb from the hard drive and will find an external storage device( iPod or something) for the iTunes to remove another 12Gb, so free space as of today is now 20Gb out of total 55Gb disk, so looking better already. Will order RAM also, probably from Edge. I will continue to try to resolve the freezing screensaver as I feel myself that it is not the RAM that is the cause. When Windows is running only at desktop and nothing else is really operating, I think 512Mb should be enough that screensaver works ok. I have all the same programs and files running on another laptop with only 256Mb and that is fine with reasonable speed. Anyway I do thank you for your kind help with my issues and am really pleased to have resolved my hard disk situation. Many thanks and warmest wishes Barry (bar457)

I will continue to monitor this topic for your results. Just by chance what screensaver are you using that is freezing up?

I have tried more than one screensaver at your suggestion and it is the same with them all. I am currently using the exploding ball. What do you mean that you will monitor this topic for my results, I guess I thought I would have to stop using the forum, are you suggesting someone else might pick up the thread somehow ?

No I will keep a eye on it in case you have any other results with the screensaver issue. I see you also posted on GTG about your screensaver issue.
