I have a dell inspirion 700m series laptop, a few years old. Last night it was working perfectly fine, however i turned it off by holding the power button. Today when i turned it on it gave me this black screen saying "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully." ect ect i chose all the start options, safe mode, last known good config, normally ; none of them worked and then i get a blue screen with STOP: 0x00000024 it tells me to run chkdsk /r - i dont know how to do that help please <3
Hi, sorry to hear of the problem with your machine. Unless there is a special reason for using the "power button" to turn off your machine, you should not do this as it can seriously damage your machine, by corrupting(damaging) important files on your computer, that prevent it from starting The 25 stop error you are getting is consistant with file damge/corruption following an incorrect shutdown. To try and repair the damge that has been caused tou can try this: 1 Go to Sart 2 Click on Run 3 Type in the white box chkdsk /r 4 Click on OK Note (the space between the k and the / is essential) 5 type Y and press the Enter/Return key 6 Note (this will allow the utility to run, when you restart your machine) 7 Close down your computer (a full shutdown, not a sleep/hibernate/standby) wait 30 seconds with a blank black screen and then restart your machine. Note Chkdsk will analyse your hard drive, detect any bad sectors and fix them automatically without intervention by you. Chkdsk will take an hour or sometimes considerably longer to complete so allow plenty of time for this procedure especially as you may need to run it several times until it has completed all 5 passes on two consecutive runs without finding or fixing any problems. Please prevent anyone from trying to use the computer whilst chkdsk is running and do not allow it to be interrupted. An UPS is recommended unless your machine is a laptop with a fully charged battery, in which case the laptop should be mains powered, with the battery in place as back up. Chkdsk will automatically restart your computer after each run of 5 passes. You may find that on this occasion you have got away with it… I sure hope so Regards paws
