Hi,
First time user and looking for some direction.
I am on an Acer Laptop using Windows Vista and AVG latest free version.
Every time I run a scan I get this message on the next line.
"C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eRecovery\Autorun\SW3\CDMAKER\WMFDist.exe";"The file is signed with a broken digital signature, issued by: Microsoft Corporation.";""
I was wondering how do I repair this broken digital signal from Microsoft.
I think, but I may be wrong but in the last number of weeks 8 to 10 or so I would say for sure I have my laptop shut down completely
for no apparent reason or warning.
I don't know if this will correct that problem but I would like to remove the error and get things back to where they were originally
assuming that I should have a digital signature that is not broken.
Can someone please advise what I should do to fix this, any ideas or support would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Uebe
For the power problem, does it actually go through a shutdown or does it just drop power? If it's dropping power, how long have you had the laptop? If it's been awhile, it may be that dust has accumulated in the cooling areas of the laptop and in the cooling fins of the heat sink. If so you will need to disassemble the laptop, which is not hard but you need a good set of instructions and you must be meticulous about how you take it apart. Keep track of every screw and where it goes as there can be as many as 30 and they will be several different sizes.
Try installing and running SpeedFan, see if that tells you anything about temperatures.
If any are running hot, that may be the cause of the sudden power drop. You may be able to find a repair manual on the Acer website for your laptop. If so, it will have instructions for disassembling it. Post the model number and I can take a look as well, see what I can find.
If you are not comfortable doing this then take it to a reputable repair shop and have them clean it for you.
If it actually goes through a shutdown then it could be malware.
