I recently got a warning about my E drive being corrupt, had never seen this error before so I decided to run a scan with Avira to be safe and found a virus, posted in the virus removal help forum and the person assisting me said that my logs did indicate a hardware issue and suggested I post in here to get further help
Here is a link to that forum topic so you can see my logs.
Hi sorry to hear of the problems with your machine.
As you are a tech support rep I guess you have tried all the normal things, however here's the checklist that I would use if the machine came into my workshop.
1 Taking all personal safety and ESD precautions ( post back for further info if in any doubt) open the machine and check for dust, loose cables, particularly on both your hard drives and your optical drives.
2 Reseat your RAM modules( its always worth doing even though your symptoms do not indicate a RAM fault)
3 Close the machine and start it up and run chkdsk /r on your primary drive C: and on your secondary drive E: I suspect that chkdsk will find errors on your e drive…. if so it will attempt a fix but if it does find errors then make sure your copy archive back up is 100% up to date accurate, reproducible and kept safe on removable media, as it could be that your E drive is failing.
4 Open your machine again and taking all precautions,Try different new cables for the e drive any improvement?
5 Disconnect the power cable and the data cable to the E drive, at both ends if the problem continues then its likely the fault is in the controller section of the motherboard?
Post back and let us know things go
