Hey heroic1, Sorry to hear you're having problems. There is a very quick and easy way to see if your machine is recognising the USB ports and anything plugged into them. 1. Plug in your Xbox 360 Controller. 2. Click the Start button 3. In the Search bar type "Device Manager" and hit Enter. 4. You'll be presented with a long list of components. Your USB ports will be under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" at the bottom. If there is an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle over the icon it means your machine is having some problems. 5. You can also check for your Xbox 360 controller. It should come under "Mice and other pointing devices" or something similar. If your machine is detecting any specific problems it will automatically show the components having issues by putting an exclamation in a yellow triangle over the icon. If anything does have that, right click the icon and click properties. Make a note of the Error Code and let us know what it is. If your USB ports or the controller don't turn up at all try doing a system restore. This will reverse any applications and system alterations that you have done since the date of the backup. This may or may not fix the problem. Worse case scenario is that there is a hardware problem, but I doubt it. (P.S. Does the green light on the controller light up?)
Okay, that would suggest that there is definitely power getting to it. Please check the Device Manager and let me know if there are any errors.
okay this is the error message im getting Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)
Hmmm, okay. Is your version of Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit? (You check by going to Control Panel and then to System.) And is this for the Xbox 360 Controller or for the USB port itself?
Okay. The Code 52 Error on Windows 7 64-bit can be a bit of a problem. Windows 7 64-bit tends to be fairly picky about drivers. If a driver is signed for Vista, it will probably not work on Windows 7. Saying that though, Microsoft does have officially signed 64-bit drivers for the Xbox 360 Controller. I'm also positive it works because mine seems to be fine. This suggests that the driver has become damaged. So I suggest you go back to the Device Manager, right click on the Xbox 360 Controller and click "Uninstall". Unplug your controller, then plug it back in. Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers for you. Let me know if that works.
