Hi guys,
hope you can help.
For the past few days my laptop has been displaying usb device not recognised whenever i plugged a usb device in. Though it would display that error my phone will still charge from the USB port. After looking about the net the common solution was to delete the items under USB in the device manager which i have done.
However now i do not even get the error (though my phone is still charging from the USB port).
Please help, i am unable to tranfser music to my phone and videos to my archos.
Hi, sorry to hear of the problem with your laptop, and welcome to the WTT forums.
Before you go any further, with the machine fully closed down (not sleeping or in hibernation but fully shut off, remove all discs, USB or PCMCIA devices (or similar) remove all connected peripherals, printers, scanners, phones, Internet cables etc. and with a "naked" machine now remove the battery.
Next connect the electric power cable in the normal way and try restarting your computer and testing ONE USB port first with one USB device, ………..if still no joy, remove the device and try in turn each of the other ports…if still no joy then:
There are a number of "first aid" steps you can take.
1 use a System Restore Point created a few days prior to the trouble starting…… if still no joy
3 Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900
follow each of the steps outlined in turn (but stop if one fixes the problem)
Post back with the results you have achieved so far and we will advise the next steps.
