Good Day:
I have a HP Notebook G60 with a pentium dual core t4300 2.1 ghz processor, 3 gb of ram and runs windows vista home premium. I had a virus several months ago that the forum helped me fix, but now when windows updates try to run i always get a message that "updates were not configured" or something to that effect. They will attempt again at next login, but again cannot be configured.
Any help on getting these updates to install would be appreciated…thanks
You could check the integrity of Vista's system files with System File Checker:
"System File Checker is a utility in Microsoft Windows that allows users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files." [Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_File_Checker]
Run the System File Checker from the Command Prompt (Start menu, accessories) with: sfc /scannow
If it finds a problem, it will attempt to replace the problematic files from the DLL Cache (%WinDir%\System32\Dllcache\). If the file is not in the DLL Cache or the DLL Cache is corrupted, the user will be prompted to insert the Windows installation media or provide the network installation path.
Also check that the Windows Update Service is running, goto Start, then run (or Windows key + R) and enter "services.msc" without quotes . Check that the service is enabled and set to run automatically.
If these don't help, try downloading and reinstalling the Windows Update Agent:
Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
For an x86-based computer For an x64-based computer For an Itanium-based computer
Click on the one you need. This will reinstall all files needed for Windows Update.
